Registered Nurse (RN) - Travel/Contract
Location: Madison, Wisconsin
Facility Type: Level IV NICU at a Magnet®-designated pediatric medical and surgical center
Contract Length
- 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
- Will accept up to 26 weeks total
Work Schedule
- Evening/Night shifts, 12 hours (7:00pm - 7:30am)
- Monday through Friday
- Required to work 2-3 weekends per 6-week scheduling period
Specialty & Experience Requirements
- Specialty: Registered Nurse in Level IV NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit)
- Required Experience:
- Minimum 2 years in acute care setting
- At least 1 full year in Level IV NICU or Level III NICU
- Accepts 1 year of Level III NICU experience in lieu of 2 years Level IV, provided candidate has 1 full year of Level IV NICU experience
- Experience with:
- Post-op patients
- G-tubes
- Trach/vent management
- Various modes of invasive/noninvasive ventilation
- Epic electronic health record experience required (preferably within last 12 months)
- Basic Arrhythmia experience required; must pass Telemetry test prior to start
Prior travel experience: Not explicitly required
Licensure & Certifications
- Wisconsin Registered Nurse license or compact license from permanent address state
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification through American Heart Association only
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification through American Heart Association only
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification required
- Telemetry test pass required before starting
Job Responsibilities
- Provide care for critically ill newborns, infants, and their families from admission to discharge
- Care for infants requiring advanced diagnostic and therapeutic services, including complex medical and surgical cases
- Work in a 26-bed NICU focused on patient- and family-centered care
- Floating may be required; shifts could be assigned to multiple units or locations depending on staffing needs

Additional Requirements & Notes
- Candidate’s permanent address must be within 50 miles of the primary work site
- Parking permit required if parking onsite; alternative transportation options available
- Must complete required background checks, education verifications, and competency exams as per facility standards
- Required to complete Pediatric Telemetry Test annually through facility LMS system
- Must comply with all health document requirements including immunizations, TB testing, drug screening, and flu vaccination or approved exemptions
- Facility requires strict adherence to certification renewals and competency testing deadlines
Required Health Documents & Immunizations
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility protocol
- Proof of Tdap vaccination (one dose from adulthood)
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titers; medical or religious exemptions considered
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer; medical or religious exemptions considered
- Hepatitis B vaccination series with positive titer or facility-specific declination form
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption (required annually)
- Drug screening per facility and Vaya standards
Testing & Competency Exams
- Pediatric Telemetry Test (pass required prior to start and annually)
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exams as applicable
- Pass/Fail Telemetry testing with remediation process for failures
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement and other facility-specific training
This position is ideal for experienced NICU RNs with strong acute care backgrounds, specialized neonatal skills, and required certifications who are seeking a travel contract in a highly regarded pediatric facility.
