Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of Registered Nurse experience required
- No prior travel experience explicitly required
Licensure & Certifications
- Permanent Virginia RN license required (temporary licenses not accepted)
- NURSYS verification required for all RNs
- Required Certifications (AHA only):
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
- Additional certifications may be required based on unit job descriptions
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement including HIPAA required
Background & Compliance Checks
- Criminal background check within 60 days of start, including:
- All states lived/worked in past 7 years
- State of permanent residence
- VA Statewide Repository Search
- SS Trace
- All counties lived/worked in past 7 years
- Nationwide check
- FACIS Level 3
- Sex Offender Registry
- Education Verification (degree from NLN or CCNE accredited program)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
- Fingerprinting (Virginia State Police National Criminal Background Check) required for certain units (Pediatrics, NICU, Psych, etc.) with proof of submission prior to start
- Virginia Central Registry (CPS) search and submission required for Pediatrics, NICU, Behavioral Health, Labor and Delivery units
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year attesting ability to meet physical demands
- Tdap vaccine or declination required
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes
- TB questionnaire updated annually
- Titers and/or boosters required for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Varicella
- Hepatitis B titer, vaccine series, or declination required
- Drug testing within 60 days of start (9-panel minimum, instant screens not accepted)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required for the 2025-26 season
Competency & Skills
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam required as applicable
- Color Blind Testing required
- Abuse Reporting Competency covering physical/sexual abuse, domestic violence, neglect/exploitation of elderly or incapacitated adults required
- Skills checklist required and must be updated annually
Orientation & Training
- Pharmacology Exam, Point of Care Testing, Airborne Precaution Mask Fitting at orientation (not pass/fail)
- Basic Knowledge Assessment Tool (BKAT) for Tele/Step-Down, Progressive Care, ICU units
- Completion of assigned learning modules (~6 hours) during orientation week

- Two professional references required

- Performance evaluations completed at end of assignment, not required prior to start
