Travel RN Opportunity – Operating Room (Vascular Specialty)

Location: Portland, Maine
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Overview

Seeking an RN with vascular experience in a Level 1 trauma center. Open case experience is mandatory, and endovascular experience is preferred. This role supports a vascular call team specialty covering three vascular rooms daily.


Key Details

  • Specialty: Operating Room – Vascular
  • Required Experience: Minimum 2 years of OR vascular experience in a Level 1 hospital (higher value from description)
  • Preferred Experience: Endovascular experience preferred
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required
  • Employment Type: Travel
  • Shift Options:
    • Flexible schedule with either three 12-hour shifts (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM) or four 10-hour shifts (7:00 AM – 5:30 PM)
  • Guaranteed Weekly Hours: 36 hours
  • Call Requirements:
    • 5 weekday night call shifts (7 PM – 7 AM, 12 hours) and 2 weekend 24-hour shifts required in a 6-week period
    • Weekend call rotation averages 1 in 6 weekends
    • One overnight trauma call (11 PM – 7 AM) required; specialty team call schedules apply for Cardiac, Thoracic, Vascular, Neuro, Ortho teams
  • Patient Ratio: 1:1
  • Unit Beds: 26
  • Equipment: Storz, Stryker, Olympus, Intuitive Robot
  • EMR System: Epic

Required Certifications & Education

  • CNOR certification preferred

Unit & Work Environment

  • Operating Room setting with a focus on vascular cases
  • Team-oriented environment requiring flexibility, accountability, timeliness, and strong teamwork
  • Scrub color: Teal (issued by hospital)

Additional Information

  • Position open due to understaffing
  • No floating to other units, but may assist with breaks outside vascular cluster
  • Must hold a valid RN license to work in Maine
  • The vascular team operates on a 6-week call rotation with 6-7 RNs; additional RNs needed to reduce call burden and improve work-life balance
  • High volume of endovascular cases performed

This role is ideal for an experienced OR RN with vascular and trauma experience looking for a travel assignment in a Level 1 trauma center with a flexible schedule and a supportive team environment.
