Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (ICU Float Pool) - Connecticut, New Haven
Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN) - ICU Float Pool

- Facility Type: Short Term Acute Care, Level I Trauma Center
- Staffed Beds: 1,567

- Schedule: Weekend required every other weekend
- Guaranteed Hours: Yes

- Floating: Yes, float between 5 ICU specialties and step-down units across two campuses (Yale New Haven Hospital and Saint Raphael campus, 2 blocks apart)
- Block Schedule: Not accommodated
- Pending License: Accepted if active prior to start date
- Return to Origin (RTO) Restrictions: RTO greater than 7 days requires approval
Experience Requirements
- Years of Experience: Minimum 2 years in specialty
- First-time Travelers: Accepted
- Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required
Certifications Required
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or ARC only
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC only
- NIH Stroke Certification (required for all RNs except Behavioral Health, Case Management, Home Health, OR, Pediatric specialties, NICU, Labor and Delivery, Postpartum)
- Additional certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, CHEMO, TNCC, CPI) - check unit-specific requirements
Competency Requirements
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (must score 85%)
- Color Blind Testing (required for all candidates on/after 8/2/2024, must score 80%)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (required for Telemetry, MS/Tele, ER, all ICU units except Neuro ICU, SICU, NICU)
Background Checks & Verifications
- 7-year criminal background check (must be updated annually)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM check within 30 days of start
- HHS/OIG check within 30 days of start
- Education verification including foreign equivalency for internationally educated RNs
- State license primary source verification within 30 days of start
- NURSYS verification within 30 days of start
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Fit mask test within 12 months of start, updated annually (3M N95 preferred)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray documentation
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination highly preferred for certain specialties
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 MMR vaccines required; boosters if titers are low
- Hepatitis B: Positive titer, vaccine series, or declination accepted
- Varicella: Positive titer, 2 vaccines, or documented history; boosters if low/equivocal
- 10 Panel Drug Screen within 12 months of start
- Seasonal Flu Vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/1 - 3/31)
- COVID vaccination preferred

- Ventricular Assist Device Awareness (except certain hospitals)
- AME Blood Administration Module (except Case Managers, Behavioral Health/Psych, Home Health)
- New Employee Orientation Module
- 21st Century Cures Act Module (required for RN except Home Health)
- ED Handbook (for ED/ER RNs)
- eCart Training Module (except Pediatric, Periop/OR, Outpatient, Case Managers, Home Health)
- Chaperone Policy Training
- EPIC Testing (optional but highly encouraged for RNs with EPIC experience)
Employment History & Compliance
- 7-year work history with no gaps greater than 90 days
- Work history verification required for all start dates on/after 8/2/2024
- Skills checklist required within 12 months of start
- Attestation of prior radiation exposure required for certain tech and specialty roles
This position offers a dynamic ICU float role across multiple specialties and campuses, ideal for RNs with at least 2 years of ICU experience who are comfortable floating and meeting diverse certification and competency requirements. First-time travelers are welcome.
