Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (ICU Float Pool)

Location: New Haven, Connecticut
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Float between 2 campuses (Yale New Haven Hospital and Saint Raphael campus) within a shared parking lot area; shuttle provided if needed
  • Float to 5 ICU specialties and step-down units, including pulmonary step-down with 1:3 nurse-to-patient ratio
  • Weekend requirement: every other weekend
  • No on-call required
  • Must float within scope to meet facility needs
  • First-time travelers accepted
  • Pending license accepted but must be active prior to start date
  • Guaranteed hours available
  • Block scheduling not accommodated
  • Return to Office (RTO) restrictions: RTO greater than 7 days requires approval

Required Experience & Certifications

  • Minimum 2 years of ICU Registered Nurse experience (highest required years of experience)
  • Certifications required before start:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • NIH Stroke Certification (required for all RNs except certain specialties)
  • Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, CHEMO, TNCC, CPI) — verify based on unit assignment

Licensure

  • Active Registered Nurse license required prior to start
  • Must apply for Connecticut license within 72 hours if not already licensed
  • Primary source verification required within 30 days of start

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check required within 12 months prior to start, updated annually
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
  • Education verification required, including foreign equivalency for internationally educated RNs
  • Drug screening: 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start
  • Employment application must include 7-year work history with no gaps greater than 90 days
  • Work history verification required for last 7 years for all start dates on/after 8/2/2024

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Fit mask test within 12 months of start, updated annually (clean shaven required)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray documentation required
  • Annual TB questionnaire required
  • Immunizations/vaccinations required or proof of immunity:
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella (MMR)
    • Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
    • Varicella (titer, vaccines, or documented history)
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (highly preferred for certain specialties)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season
  • COVID vaccination series preferred

Competency & Training Requirements

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required within 12 months prior to start (85% passing score)
  • Color blind testing required for all candidates on/after 8/2/2024 (80% passing score)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for telemetry, MS/Tele, ER, and all ICU units (not required for Neuro ICU, SICU, NICU)
  • EPIC system testing or training required for RNs with EPIC experience or as assigned
  • Multiple facility-specific training modules and attestations required, including but not limited to:
    • Stroke Education
    • CLABSI Prevention
    • Preventing Pressure Injury
    • Language Services
    • CAUTI Education
    • Patient Transportation with Oxygen
    • Suicide Risk and Environmental Assessment
    • Pyxis ES MedStation
    • Baxter Pump Interoperability
    • Patient Bedside Rounding
    • Ventricular Assist Device Awareness
    • Blood Administration (annual update)
    • New Employee Orientation
    • 21st Century Cures Act Module
    • ED Handbook (for ED/ER RNs)
    • eCart Training Module
    • Chaperone Policy Training
