Location: New Haven, Connecticut

Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: Emergency Department (ED)
- Schedule: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (3x12s), Days only
- Start Date: ASAP
- Patient Ratios: Average 1:6 (days, nights, weekends)
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- On-call: Not required
- Floating: Yes, within scope to meet facility needs
- Block Schedule: Accommodated
- Pending License: Accepted
- Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: RTO greater than 7 days requires approval
- Guaranteed Hours: Yes
- Special Notes:
- Assigned to one campus with cross-training and floating to other campuses
- Travelers do not work trauma/rescue rooms, triage, or locked behavioral health units
- Weekend call-out policy includes mandatory makeup shifts within 6 weeks
Experience Requirements
- Years of Experience: Minimum 2 years preferred; will consider 1.5 years from a similar hospital
- Prior Travel Experience: Not required
- First-time Travelers: Accepted
Certifications Required
- Mandatory:
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
Background & Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check (updated annually)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
- Education verification including foreign equivalency for internationally educated RNs
- State license primary source verification within 30 days of start
- NURSYS verification within 30 days of start
- Employment application with 7-year work history, no gaps >90 days
- Work history verification for last 7 years (attestations not accepted)
- Skills checklist within 12 months of start
- Attestation of prior radiation exposure if applicable
Competency & Testing Requirements
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (85% passing score)
- Color Blind Testing (required for all candidates starting on/after 8/2/2024, 80% passing score)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (required for telemetry, MS/Tele, ER, all ICU units)
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Fit mask test within 12 months, updated annually (3M N95 preferred)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray documentation
- Annual TB questionnaire
- Immunizations or proof of immunity for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (or declination within 1 year)
- Varicella
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination preferred for pediatric specialties, labor & delivery, postpartum (declination accepted)
- 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start
- Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/1 - 3/31)
- COVID vaccine series preferred
Facility-Specific Training & Documents
- Stroke education (except pediatric specialties and NICU)
- CLABSI prevention for adult and pediatric patients
- Preventing pressure injury training
- Language services training
- CAUTI education (except PICU, NICU, Psychiatry/Behavioral Health)
- Patient transportation with oxygen education
- Suicide risk and environmental assessment training
- Pyxis ES MedStation training
- Baxter pump interoperability training
- Patient bedside rounding (except OR, Behavioral Health, Ambulatory, ER/ED)
- Ventricular assist device awareness
- Blood administration module (annual update required)
- New employee orientation module
- 21st Century Cures Act module (required for RN except Home Health)
- ED handbook (for ED/ER RNs only)
- eCart training module (not required for pediatric, periop/OR, outpatient, case managers, home health)
- Chaperone policy training (required if gap >6 months or updated module)

- Travelers are assigned to one campus but may float to others within the system
