Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Colorado Springs, Colorado
Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN) – CV ICU Nights
Unit: 12 Bed Cardio-Vascular Intensive Care Unit (Cardiothoracic, Thoracic, Vascular surgeries, with overflow from Surgical Critical Care and Medical ICU)
Shift: Nights, various days of the week
Weekend Requirements: Yes, per unit needs
On-Call: No
Floating: Yes, as required per unit needs


Contract Length

  • 13 weeks

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • First-time travelers not accepted (prior travel experience required)

Certifications Required

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA only, RQI accepted
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA only, RQI accepted
  • NIHSS (NIH Stroke Scale Certification)

Additional Job Details

  • Scrubs color: Navy Blue
  • Charting system: Epic
  • Maximum of 10 Return to Office (RTO) days approved
  • RTO not allowed during specific holiday periods (Dec 21, 2025 – Jan 3, 2026; Mar 14 – Mar 21, 2026; May 8 – May 11, 2026; May 21 – May 27, 2026)
  • Flexibility may be considered for harder-to-fill positions

  • HHS/OIG Check within 60 days of start
  • Transcript/Diploma acceptable in lieu of Education Verification
  • State License Verification (Colorado RN license required) within 60 days of start
  • NURSYS Verification within 60 days of start
  • References: 2 references from last 2 years, one from last year, from Charge RN, Manager, Supervisor or above
  • Employment Application and Work History Verification covering last 3 years (gaps >30 days must be explained)
  • Colorado CAPS Check Results within 60 days of start

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Physical Exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, DO, NP, or PA
  • Fit Mask test within 12 months of start, updated annually (specific 3M masks required)
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years or signed declination within 1 year
  • Negative TB test or Chest X-Ray within 1 year, updated annually
  • TB Questionnaire annually if positive TB
  • Immunizations or titers required:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
    • Varicella
  • Drug Testing within 30 days of start, updated annually (specific drug panel required)
  • Seasonal Flu Vaccination or facility-specific exemption during flu season (starting 09/15)
  • COVID vaccine documentation or signed declination (acceptable vaccines: AstraZeneca, Pfizer, Moderna)
  • Color Blind Exam (Ishihara exam) required prior to start (online testing not accepted)

Competency Exams (Required within 1 year of start and updated annually)

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam
  • Competency Exam (minimum 80% score)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (minimum 80% score) – required for ICU and related units
  • Core Part I, II, III (minimum 80% score) – not required for non-direct patient care roles
  • OSHA Mandatory Training (minimum 80% score)

Summary

This is a travel/contract RN position in a specialized Cardiovascular ICU unit requiring night shifts with weekend coverage. Candidates must have at least 2 years of RN experience, prior travel experience, and hold current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications. Compliance with extensive background checks, health screenings, immunizations, and competency exams is mandatory. The contract length is approximately 13 weeks.
