Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) - Emergency Room (ER)

Location: Lees Summit, Missouri
Employment Type: Travel/Contract

Job Summary

Seeking an experienced Registered Nurse for the Emergency Room with a focus on pediatric and psychiatric care, IV therapy, respiratory support, neurological and cardiac monitoring, and orthopedic management. This is a community hospital setting with 240 staffed beds.


Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required (highest stated requirement)
  • First-time travelers not accepted
  • Prior travel experience not explicitly required

Work Schedule

  • Weekend shifts required: every third weekend or 8 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule period (Friday/Saturday/Sunday combination)
  • Holiday shifts and Charge RN assignments as needed
  • Floating required within scope to all metro Emergency Departments and possibly other units/facilities
  • No block scheduling accommodation
  • Must live at least 75 miles from the facility (no locals accepted)
  • Return to Office (RTO) restrictions: no more than 7 days

  • Abdominal pain, asthma, burns, epiglottitis, head injury, hyperglycemia
  • Identifying and reporting abuse

  • IV certification required for LPN/LVN if applicable (not for RNs)

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • Criminal background check within 6 months required (7-year search including statewide and nationwide)
  • Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required
  • Education verification of highest nursing degree required (cannot pend at start)
  • Drug testing within 1 year of start, must include a full panel (amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, methadone, opiates, oxycodone, PCP)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start required
  • Fit mask testing (N95) required and must be renewed annually
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (Tdap every 10 years)
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray (2-step PPD or equivalent)
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella (positive titer, vaccination, or declination)
    • Hepatitis B declination required (not vaccination)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season (Sept-April)

Competency Exams

  • Medication test/pharmacology competency exam required
  • Unit-specific competency exams required annually
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 12 months of start (80% pass rate)
  • Color blindness testing required within 12 months of start

Additional Requirements

  • Two professional references required (supervisors preferred)
  • Employment application required
  • Unit-specific skills checklist required within 1 year of start
  • Completion of facility-specific orientation and regulatory compliance education modules prior to start
  • Review and sign facility policies including HIPAA, latex allergy, confidentiality, hand hygiene, fingernail, and dress code policies

This is a travel RN contract position in an Emergency Room setting requiring a minimum of 2 years of RN experience, multiple certifications (BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS), and a broad skill set in pediatric, psychiatric, respiratory, neurological, cardiac, and orthopedic care.
