Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Augusta, Georgia
Contract Length: 7 weeks
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of Registered Nurse experience
- 1st time travelers not accepted (prior travel experience required)
Patient Population
- Adults to Geriatrics
- Mostly post-surgical patients including:
- Orthopedics
- Urology
- Colorectal
- Bariatrics
- Neurology
- General Surgery
Unit Details
- 42 Bed Unit
- Nurse to patient ratio: 1:6
- 42 rooms
- Unit systems: Epic (required), Pyxis, SBAR
- Scrub color: Royal Blue
- Floating required
- Weekend schedule: Every other weekend
- Return to Orientation (RTO): Maximum 7 days
- Call requirements: Not specified
Holiday Work Expectations
- If 1 major holiday falls during assignment, traveler expected to work it
- If 2 major holidays fall, traveler expected to work both
- If 3 major holidays fall, traveler expected to work 2 of them
Major holidays include:
- New Year’s Eve and Day
- Spring Break (no RTO)
- Memorial Day
- Independence Day
- Labor Day
- Thanksgiving/Black Friday
- Christmas Eve and Day
Certifications Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC accepted
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) may be required depending on specialty area
- Other certifications (PALS, NRP, EFM) may be required depending on specialty area (refer to clinical track)
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Full compliance required to start on time; delays in compliance may push start date by 2 weeks due to bi-weekly orientation schedule
- Background check required within 30 days of start, including:
- County and national criminal searches
- Education verification
- State license verification within 30 days prior to start (must be licensed in Georgia)
- Annual NURSYS verification within 30 days prior to start
- Drug testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start (instant drug screen acceptable under certain conditions)
- Physical exam required within 1 year of start
- TB testing (PPD, QGold, or TSpot) within 12 months of start, plus TB questionnaire updated annually
- Immunizations/vaccinations required or proof of immunity:
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer)
- Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
- Hepatitis B series or signed declination
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination (strongly encouraged during flu season)
Competency Exams
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required
- Color blind testing required
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for certain units (Tele, ICU, ER, etc.) with up to 3 attempts allowed
Additional Notes
- Skills checklist within 12 months required
- Verification of most recent work history required (can be pending at start with proof it is in process)
- Two clinical references required
- Locals accepted at same rate
This position is ideal for experienced Registered Nurses with prior travel contract experience who are comfortable working in a fast-paced, post-surgical adult and geriatric patient population using Epic and other unit systems. Compliance with all certifications, background checks, and health documentation is mandatory for timely start.
