Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Washington, District of Columbia
Specialty: Registered Nurse (PACU)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Unit: Third Floor PACU (Post-Anesthesia Care Unit)
  • Shift: 4 shifts per week, 10 hours each (Day/Evening shifts: 0630-1700 or 0900-1930)
  • Floating: May float to main OR if census permits/needed
  • Flu vaccination is required for all travelers

Requirements

  • Licensure:
    • DC RN License required (pending DC license accepted but must be active prior to start)
  • Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC certified
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) recommended
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) required only if working in ED or Pediatrics (not required for this PACU role)
    • Other certifications may be required based on unit (e.g., NRP, TNCC)
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 2 years of general PACU experience
    • Experience must include administration of blood products, infection control, specimen handling and labeling, and general PACU procedures
  • Prior Travel Experience:
    • Not explicitly required for this position

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Annual physical exam confirming ability to work without accommodations and free from communicable disease
  • Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season
  • Negative TB test (IGRA or PPD) within 1 year, updated annually; if prior positive, chest x-ray and annual questionnaire required
  • Documentation of immunity or vaccination for:
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer)
    • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
    • Hepatitis B (titer, series, or signed declination)
  • Drug screen within 90 days of start (excluding marijuana), updated annually for extensions or breaks in service over 6 months
  • N95 Fit Test within 9 months of start, updated annually (client may complete onsite if needed)

Background & Compliance

  • Criminal background check within 90 days, including all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
  • E-Verify and I9 documentation required prior to start
  • Education verification for highest degree required by position
  • Two positive supervisory references supporting at least 2 years of experience within the last 3 years
  • Complete 7 years of work history with no gaps, including education, employment, license, and contact information
  • Skills checklist and competency exams required prior to start and updated annually
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (score 80% or higher) within 3 years
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for certain specialties (not specifically noted for PACU)

Additional Notes

  • Valid driver's license required if driving on behalf of the facility is an essential job function
  • Facility-specific orientation modules must be completed prior to start
  • Annual acknowledgment of safety manual required

This position is ideal for experienced PACU RNs with at least 2 years of relevant clinical experience, who hold or are in the process of obtaining a DC RN license, and who meet the health and compliance requirements listed above.
