Job Opportunity: Laboratory Specialist (MLS) - Travel/Contract

Location: Baltimore, Maryland
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)

Job Requirements

• Specialty: Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS)
• Experience: Minimum 1 year of hospital clinical lab experience required
• Certifications:

  • ASCP required
  • ASCP-MLS preferred
• Technical Skills:

  • Knowledge of Eflexis blood bank analyzer required
  • Experience with Siemens Atellica chemistry analyzer required
• Schedule: Every other weekend required
• Travel Experience: First-time travelers accepted (prior travel experience NOT required)

Required Documentation & Compliance

• Background Checks:

  • Criminal background check within 90 days, covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
  • Federal, state, and county searches as applicable
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks prior to start and monthly thereafter
• Licenses & Certifications:

  • State license verification required prior to start
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) required (AHA or ARC)
  • ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM, NIH Stroke Certification as applicable based on unit requirements
  • National tech certification verification as required by profession/state
• Competency Exams:

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam within 3 years, minimum 80% score
  • Color blindness testing (online or in-person)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam for applicable units (RN only) with specific scoring requirements
• Health Requirements:

  • Annual physical exam confirming ability to work without accommodations and free from communicable disease
  • N95 Fit Test within 9 months of start, updated annually (client may complete onsite if needed)
  • Immunizations and titers:

    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years preferred)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, with annual updates if history positive
    • Documentation of MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccines or positive titers
    • Hepatitis B titer, series, or signed declination
    • Varicella vaccines or positive titer
  • Drug screen within 90 days of start (excluding marijuana), including multiple substances; updated annually for extensions/returning candidates
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Sept-Mar)
• Employment History & References:

  • Complete 7 years of work history with no gaps
  • Two positive supervisory references supporting at least 2 years of experience within the last 3 years
  • Work history verification with minimum 2 years employment in past 7 years
• Facility Specific Requirements:

  • Completion of facility orientation modules prior to start
  • Photo for badge with specific guidelines (clear, centered, no glare, solid background)
  • Various attestations including I9/E-Verify, drug screen, background check, and others as required

Summary

This is a travel/contract position for a Medical Laboratory Scientist with at least 1 year of hospital clinical lab experience. Candidates must hold an ASCP certification and have experience with specific lab analyzers. The role requires weekend availability every other weekend. First-time travelers are welcome to apply.
