Registered Nurse - Mental Health Unit

Location: Saratoga Springs, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• Work in the Mental Health Unit (MHU) / Behavioral Health Unit (BHU)
• Must have current inpatient MHU/BHU experience
• Required to work every other weekend and holidays
• No local candidates within a 50-mile radius or from specified counties in the Albany Health System area

Licenses & Certifications Required

• New York RN License (must be active and in good standing)
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification (American Heart Association or American Red Cross)
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) preferred
• Additional certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., EFM for Labor & Delivery)

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of experience in inpatient Mental Health Unit or Behavioral Health Unit
• Prior travel experience is not explicitly required

Compliance & Background Checks

• Standard background checks including:

  • 7-year SS trace and county searches
  • Nationwide and sex offender registry checks
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks (annual)
• New York State registry search required for all Behavioral Health travelers

Health & Immunization Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start (onsite physical available)
• Negative TB test (2-step PPD or Quantiferon Gold within 1 year)
• Proof of immunity or vaccination for:

  • Measles (Rubeola)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Varicella
  • Hepatitis B (titer, declination, or vaccine series)
• Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required by December 5th, 2024
• 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start (LabCorp required)
• Fit mask test (N95 OSHA questionnaire and fit test)
• Eye exam including Ishihara color deficiency test

Testing & Competency Exams

• Must pass advanced EKG/ECG test with a minimum score of 90% within 72 hours of signing contract (100% on lethal rhythms)
• Medication/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
• Other competency exams as required by profession and unit

Additional Requirements

• Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training (New York State mandated for all RNs)
• Photo for badge (passport-style)
• Lift assessment (typically 25 lbs, may vary by position)
• Completion of virtual orientation and clinical testing modules prior to start date
• FCRA Authorization Release signed prior to start
• References: 2 professional references for travel or acute care roles

• Every other weekend and holiday shifts required
• No local hires within a 50-mile radius or from specified counties in the Albany Health System
