Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Kansas City, Missouri
Specialty: Pediatric Critical Care (CICU/CVPICU)
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
Shift: Nights, 36 hours/week
Start Date: ASAP; ideally within 4-6 weeks


Job Description

  • Must have at least 2 years of nursing experience overall.
  • Pediatric CICU experience required: minimum 1 year.
  • Critical care nursing experience in CICU/CVPICU must be clearly documented in work history.
  • May float to cardiac medical-surgical floor to assist with patients.
  • Certifications required:
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • First-time travelers are welcome (prior travel experience not required).

Required Certifications & Compliance

  • Government-issued photo ID (must be carried during hours of service).
  • Proof of E-Verify or attestation.
  • Background check within 3 months of start, including county and statewide searches for Missouri and Kansas.
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated every 6 months.
  • Certifications must be AHA-approved (no RQI placeholders):
    • ACLS
    • BLS (HeartCode accepted)
    • PALS (HeartCode accepted)
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) as required (AHA 8th Edition Advanced Certification).
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) required for ER/Peds ER only.
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement required.
  • State license primary source verification and NURSYS verification required for all RNs.
  • Pass/fail testing on medication calculation/dosage required during orientation (100% passing score required).
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification required for Behavioral Health Techs and RNs going to Crisis Center (not required for this position).

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Initial physical exam and annual updates attesting to ability to meet physical demands.
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination within 10 years of start.
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray per facility protocol; TB questionnaire required annually.
  • Proof of immunizations or titers for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (3 vaccines, titer, or declination)
    • Varicella
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days prior to start.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required annually (no declinations accepted).
  • Respiratory safety clearance or questionnaire as applicable.

Additional Requirements

  • Two supervisory references or performance evaluations verified within 1 year of start.
  • Pediatric skills checklist required.
  • Missouri Highway Patrol check required.
  • Facility-specific forms and health documents must be completed prior to or immediately after start.

Summary

This is a night-shift travel contract position for a Registered Nurse with at least 2 years of nursing experience and minimum 1 year of pediatric CICU experience. The role requires critical care skills, pediatric certifications (PALS, ACLS, BLS), and compliance with extensive background, health, and immunization requirements. First-time travel nurses are welcome to apply. The contract length is approximately 13 weeks.
