Job Details

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum Specialty Experience: 2 years
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Experience with chest tubes, epicardial wires, sheath/radial band management
  • Familiarity with cardiac drips such as Amiodarone, NTG, Cardizem, etc.
  • Must pass an advanced dysrhythmia (EKG) competency exam

Certifications and Licenses

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only
  • NIH Stroke Certification preferred (must be within 1 year of start date)
  • State RN license with primary source verification (NURSYS verification required)
  • Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, EFM)

Competency Exams

  • Advanced Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (must be completed within 1 year of start and updated annually)
  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (as applicable)
  • Color Blind Testing (required for all candidates prior to start)
  • General Competency Exam (required for all clinical candidates prior to start)

Background and Verification Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required
  • Education verification matching specialty (transcript or diploma acceptable if verification unavailable)
  • State-specific abuse registry check if applicable

Health and Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start (not required by facility but required by agency standards)
  • Fit mask test (annual)
  • Tdap vaccine within 10 years (declination acceptable for non-clinical)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (annual updates required)
  • Baseline TB risk assessment within 90 days of start (annual updates required)
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or IgG titer required; declinations not accepted
  • Hepatitis B surface antibody titer, series, or declination required
  • Varicella - 2 vaccines or IgG titer required; declinations not accepted
  • Negative 9-panel urine drug screen within 90 days of start
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31); declinations not accepted
  • COVID-19 vaccination or medical/religious exemption required; facility-specific exemption form must be completed

Additional Requirements

  • Driver’s license if driving is a major job function
  • 2 professional references required (1 for non-clinical)
  • Employment application required
  • Unit-specific skills checklist (updated annually)
  • Badge photo (shoulders up, solid light background)

Work Schedule

  • Weekends and holidays by rotation

This position requires a competent RN with cardiac and surgical experience, appropriate certifications, and compliance with comprehensive background and health requirements.
