Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Specialty: Registered Nurse (ICU Float RN Nights)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Float to multiple ICUs including Trauma, Oncology, Cardiac/Heart and Vascular, Neurology, Medicine, and COVID units.
- If ICU needs are low, float to inpatient floors as a staff nurse (floors include Oncology, Neurology, Med Surg, Medicine, Trauma, Heart and Vascular, and COVID).
- ICU nurse-to-patient ratio: 2:1 for all shifts.
- Inpatient floor ratio: no more than 1:3.
- May be asked to serve as a patient sitter if needed.
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule, plus holiday rotation.
Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required.
- At least 1 year of CV ICU experience is beneficial but not required.
- Prior travel experience required (will not accept first-time travelers).
- Strong, independent ICU nursing skills.
- Experience with ventilators, IV starts, telemetry, and conscious sedation required.
- BCLS and ACLS certifications required.
- Preferred (not required) skills/certifications:
- Cardiac skill set (Swans-hemodynamic interpretation, IABP, Impella, ECMO)
- Vasoactive drips, CRRT
- Chemo, CCRN, NIH, ONS, TNCC, CPI certifications
- Triage, ICP, PA lines, Level 1 Trauma experience
Facility & Work Environment
- Type of Facility: Short Term Acute Care
- Charting system: EPIC (past EPIC experience strongly preferred)
- Scrub color: Navy Blue

Certifications & Compliance Requirements
- BCLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- Other certifications may be required or preferred depending on unit (e.g., TNCC, CPI, NIH Stroke Certification)
- State License verification and NURSYS verification required
- IV Certification required for LPNs/LVNs (if applicable)
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam and unit-specific competency exams required
- Background checks including criminal background, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and state-specific searches
- Education verification required
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Fit mask testing required and must be renewed annually
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (every 10 years)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination
- Drug testing within 1 year of start, must include specific panels
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season (09/30 - 04/01)
- Facility-specific documents such as HIPAA Acknowledgement, Latex Allergy Questionnaire, Confidentiality Form, Regulatory Compliance Education, Dress Code Policy, Hand Hygiene Policy, and others must be completed and signed prior to start
- Orientation modules (approximately 16 hours) required prior to start unless completed within the last year or worked at a BJC facility within 6 months
Scheduling & Workload
- Night shifts
- Floating between multiple ICU units and inpatient floors as needed
- Weekend and holiday rotations required
Additional Notes
- Government-issued ID required
- Must meet all background check and compliance requirements prior to start
- Two professional references required (supervisors preferred)
- Employment application and unit-specific skills checklist required within 1 year of start
This position is ideal for experienced ICU nurses with prior travel contract experience who are comfortable floating across multiple critical care units and inpatient floors in a fast-paced acute care environment.
