Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Opportunity

Location: Cleveland, Ohio
Facility: Stepdown Unit (Cardiac Stepdown)


Job Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse
  • Unit: HVTI-Stepdown (Cardiac Stepdown)
  • Shift: 3x12 hour shifts only (D/N rotating shifts: 7pm-7:30am / 7am-7:30pm)
  • Shift Rotation: Shifts may be variable to meet hospital operational needs; facility will try to honor preferred shifts but reserves the right to rotate.
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 18 months of permanent experience in the specialty prior to travel.
  • Must have 18 months recent Cardiac Stepdown experience (travel experience accepted).
  • Progressive Care Unit (PCU) / Progressive Care experience preferred but not required.
  • Prior travel experience is NOT explicitly required.

Licensure & Certifications

  • Must have a permanent Ohio nursing license or a compact state license in hand.
  • Required certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA or American Red Cross
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA or American Red Cross
    • NIHSS Stroke Certification
  • Other certifications:
    • PALS preferred but not required
    • Additional certifications may be required depending on unit specifics (e.g., TNCC preferred for ER)

Testing & Competencies

  • ECG rhythm recognition test and SafeMedicate pass required during orientation.
  • Unit-specific competency exam required within 12 months of start and updated annually.
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as applicable.
  • Pass/Fail ECG & Medication testing required onsite during orientation (not required for legacy candidates with less than 6 months gap between contracts).

Work Requirements

  • Must work at least every other holiday.

Onboarding & Compliance

  • Background checks including FCRA compliant 7-year search, monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG checks required.
  • Fingerprinting (BCI and FBI) required within 12 months of start and updated annually; must be completed within 48 hours of signed contract.
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, including Snellen eye exam (required for new candidates signing 4/11/2025 or later).
  • Fit mask test (N95) required within 12 months of start and updated annually.
  • Immunizations and health documents required:
    • Tdap every 10 years
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccinations or positive titers
    • Hepatitis B vaccination or titer
    • Varicella vaccination or titer
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or approved exemption (declinations not accepted)
  • Drug screening: Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months, updated annually (instant drug screens not accepted).

Documentation & References

  • 2 professional references required from employment within 1 year of start (manager, supervisor, charge nurse, or director).
  • Employment application must include 3 years prior work history with at least 2 years clinical practice in acute care and similar area to assignment.
  • Annual skills checklist required.

Facility-Specific Requirements

  • Completion of online training modules prior to start (must be done on a computer using Google Chrome; cannot be completed on a phone).
  • Modules include safety manual acknowledgement and onboarding training.
  • Candidates with gaps greater than 6 months between Cleveland Clinic assignments must re-complete modules.
  • Candidates must complete all onboarding modules before clearance to start.

This position is ideal for experienced RNs with strong cardiac stepdown skills and the ability to work rotating shifts in a high-acuity hospital setting. Compliance with all licensure, certification, health, and onboarding requirements is mandatory.
