Registered Nurse (ICU) - Travel/Contract

Location: Carmel, Indiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (ICU)
  • Shift: 3x12-hour or 4x12-hour shifts
  • Patient Ratios: 1:2
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend required
  • On-call: Not required
  • Local Candidates: Not accepted
  • Floating: Yes, within scope to meet facility needs
  • Block Schedule: To be discussed
  • License: Indiana state RN license and required certifications must be in hand before starting (no pending licenses accepted)
  • Holiday Requirement: Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
  • Guaranteed Hours:
    • 8 and 10 hour shifts: 40 hours/week
    • 3x12 hour shifts: 36 hours/week
    • 4x12 hour shifts: 48 hours/week

Experience & Certifications

  • Required Years of Experience: Minimum 2 years ICU experience
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required
  • Required Certifications:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • NIH Stroke Certification
  • Preferred Certification: CCRN (Critical Care Registered Nurse)

Unit & Facility Information

  • 14-bed ICU with open heart program and neurosurgery
  • Stroke unit, Level 2 trauma unit
  • ECMO stabilize and ship program
  • STEMI, Manual Proning, Sepsis care
  • Use of IABP (Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump) and CRRT (Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy)
  • UST and RRT teams available
  • Short-term acute care facility with 194 staffed beds
  • Charting system: Cerner
  • Free parking
  • Scrub color: red top, black bottoms

Important Notes

  • IU Health will not allow Indiana RNs to work at their facilities after 11/30/24, except for Perioperative/OR RNs, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers (including ENDO, IR RN, PACU, Cath Lab RN, SDS)
  • Must comply with facility-specific scheduling and holiday requirements

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Valid Driver’s License or Passport (clear copy)
  • Background checks including:
    • 7-year history criminal and education verification
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
  • Education verification and official transcripts/diplomas
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam
  • Unit competency exam
  • Color blind testing (Ishihara exam or equivalent)
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Fit mask test within 12 months (N95 or approved respirators)
  • Immunizations and titers:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (preferred)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: positive titer or 2 vaccines required (no declinations accepted)
    • Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination
    • Varicella: positive titer or 2 vaccines required (no declinations accepted)
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required for flu season (9/30 - 3/31)
  • References: Minimum 2 from recent employment with supervisory titles, verified within 2 years
  • Current employment application with full work history and explanations for gaps over 30 days
  • Skills checklist within 12 months, updated annually

Additional Facility-Specific Requirements

  • Completion of facility-specific compliance checklists and confidentiality agreements (time sensitive)
  • Completion of orientation packets and tests prior to start
  • Proof of auto insurance required only for Hospice specialty (not applicable here)

This position is ideal for experienced ICU RNs with required certifications and a willingness to work a travel contract in Indiana with specific scheduling and holiday requirements.
