Registered Nurse - Pediatric Critical Care Float Pool (Travel/Contract)
Location: Kansas City, Missouri
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night Shift, 3x12s
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
License Requirements: Must be licensed to work in Missouri; Kansas license preferred or willingness to obtain.
Job Description
- Float between Pediatric Critical Care units on the same campus (PICU, NICU, CVPICU).
- Floating limited to similar specialties within critical care; no floating outside acuity level.
- Pediatric critical care experience in PICU, NICU, or CVPICU preferred.
- Prior travel experience required.
- Flexible schedules preferred.
- Local candidates accepted at the same rate.
Required Experience
- Specialty: Registered Nurse in Pediatric Critical Care (PICU, NICU, CVPICU)
- Years of Experience: Not explicitly stated, but implied preference for experienced critical care pediatric nurses.
- Prior Travel Experience: Required.
Certifications & Licenses
- ACLS (AHA only; RQI not accepted)
- BLS (AHA only; HeartCode accepted; RQI not accepted)

- NRP (AHA 8th Edition Advanced Certification, as required)
- TNCC (required for ER/Peds ER)
- State RN License verification and NURSYS verification required
- Clean NURSYS report required
Compliance & Background Checks
- Background check within 3 months of start, including all counties worked or lived in past 7 years, sex offender search, and statewide searches for Missouri and Kansas.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated every 6 months.
- Missouri Highway Patrol Check required.
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days prior to start.
- E-Verify or attestation proof required.
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam attesting ability to meet physical demands (initial and annual).
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination within 10 years.
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray per facility protocol.
- Annual TB questionnaire.
- Proof of immunizations or titers for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (3 vaccines, titer, or declination)
- Varicella
- Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required annually (no declinations accepted).
- Respiratory safety clearance or questionnaire as applicable.
Orientation & Competency Testing
- Medication calculation/dosage test during orientation (100% passing required; three attempts allowed).
- Pediatric pharmacology competency exam.
- Pediatric skills checklist as applicable.
- Orientation safety manual acknowledgement.
- Pass/fail testing (EKG/medication) required for RNs.
- Acknowledgement of pass/fail testing required for RNs.
Additional Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID required during hours of service.
- Residency declaration form if working on a compact license.
- Facility-specific health forms, TB questionnaire, and medication review packet to be completed prior to or at start.
- References: Two supervisory references or performance evaluations within 1 year of start.
- Employment application/resume required.
- Performance evaluation if employed with agency over 12 months.
- Internal evaluation if worked with agency over 2 years.
- Missouri and Kansas EDL search results required.
Notes
- Small chance of floating to Kansas units; hence KS license preferred or willingness to obtain.
- Floating only within pediatric critical care specialties.
- Clean NURSYS report mandatory.
- Flexible scheduling preferred.
