Job Description

  • Work in a comprehensive liver care ICU.
  • ICU experience required.
  • Transplant experience highly preferred.
  • Locals allowed at the same rate.

Experience Requirements

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • Criminal background check within 60 days of start, including:
    • All states lived/worked in past 7 years
    • State of permanent residence
    • VA Statewide Repository Search
    • Sex Offender Registry
    • Education verification
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start.
  • Fingerprinting required for certain units (Pediatrics, NICU, Psych, Children’s Hospital units).
  • Virginia State Police National Criminal Background Check fingerprint results required for applicable units; results can pend if proof of submission is on file.
  • Virginia Central Registry (CPS) search required for applicable units; candidates must complete submission within 48 hours of contract signing.

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year attesting ability to meet physical demands.
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine or declination required.
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes (Q-gold/T-spot or two PPDs).
  • TB questionnaire required annually regardless of TB result.
  • Titers required for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella; booster required if low titer.
  • Hepatitis B titer, vaccine series, or declination required.
  • Drug testing within 60 days of start (9-panel minimum, instant screens not accepted).
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required for 2025-26 season (no declinations accepted).

Competency & Orientation

  • Medication test/pharmacology competency exam required as applicable.
  • Color blindness testing required.
  • Abuse reporting competency required (covering physical/sexual abuse, domestic violence, neglect/exploitation).
  • Orientation includes exams/tests such as pharmacology, point of care testing, airborne precaution mask fitting, and BKAT for ICU/step-down units.
  • Completion of assigned learning modules during orientation week (approx. 6 hours).

Documentation & Other Requirements

  • Complete application/resume required.
  • Two professional references required.
  • Skills checklist must be updated annually.
  • HIPAA confidentiality agreement required prior to start.
  • Candidates must carry government-issued photo ID during hours of service.
  • Proof of primary residence must match compact licensure documentation.
