Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Cleveland, Ohio
Unit: HVTI-Stepdown (Cardiac Stepdown)

Job Details

• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Shift: 3x12 hour shifts (D/N rotating shifts 7pm-7:30am / 7am-7:30pm)

  • Shifts may be variable to meet hospital operational needs.
  • Facility will try to honor preferred shifts but reserves the right to rotate.
• Work Holidays: Must work at least every other holiday.

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 18 months of permanent experience in the specialty prior to travel.
• Minimum 18 months of recent Cardiac Stepdown experience (travel experience accepted).
• PCU/Progressive care experience preferred but not required.
• Prior travel experience is NOT explicitly required.

Licensure & Certifications

• Must have a permanent Ohio nursing license or a compact state license in hand.
• Required certifications:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
• ECG rhythm recognition test and SafeMedicate pass required during orientation.

Orientation & Testing

• Pass/fail ECG and medication dosing testing completed onsite during orientation.
• Orientation includes completion of SafeMedicate preparation materials.
• Unit-specific competency exam required within 12 months of start and updated annually.

Required Documentation & Compliance

• Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID) required and must be carried on assignment.
• Background checks including:

  • FCRA compliant 7-year search
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM monthly checks
  • HHS/OIG monthly checks
  • Fingerprinting (FBI and BCI) within 12 months, updated annually
• Education verification required.
• References: 2 references from employment within 1 year of start, from a manager or supervisor (no co-worker references).
• Employment application must include 3 years prior work history with at least 2 years clinical practice in acute care in a similar area.
• Skills checklist required annually.

Health & Immunization Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start, including Snellen eye exam (for candidates signing 4/11/2025 or later).
• Fit mask test (N95) within 12 months, updated annually.
• Immunizations/vaccinations required:

  • Tdap (every 10 years)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or positive titer with booster if needed
  • Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
  • Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer with booster if needed
  • Seasonal flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption (declinations not accepted)
• Drug testing: Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months, updated annually (instant drug screens not accepted).

Additional Notes

• Candidates must complete Cleveland Clinic online training modules prior to start; these must be done on a computer using Google Chrome.
• Fingerprinting must be completed within 48 hours of signed contract; candidates can start with results pending but must complete before extension.
• Facility requires annual acknowledgment of orientation safety manual and pass/fail testing (except OR nurses).
• Candidates with gaps longer than 6 months since last Cleveland Clinic contract may need to retake orientation and testing.

This position is ideal for experienced cardiac stepdown nurses with solid acute care backgrounds and current Ohio or compact state licensure, ready to work rotating 12-hour shifts in a high-acuity hospital setting.
