Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Dayton, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Provide professional nursing care following standards set by the American Nurses Association and Ohio Board of Nursing.
- Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to promote optimal health for patients and families.
- Deliver nursing care based on detailed patient/family assessments and hospital mission.
- Promote a patient and family experience-oriented environment.
- Act as a change agent to meet fluctuating census and customer needs.
Schedule
- 7 PM to 7 AM shifts
- Scheduled days based on unit needs
Experience & Education Requirements
- Specialty: Pediatric Emergency Department (ED)
- Required Experience: Minimum 2 years Pediatric ED experience (preferred)
- Education: BSN required
- Licensure: Active and unrestricted RN license in Ohio
Certifications Required
- CPR
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) preferred for PICU/Pediatrics
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure) preferred but not required for NICU
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) as required
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) required for Behavioral Health
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement required
Float Expectations
- Must float across all ED sites (Main ED, Crisis Center at Mathile) and inpatient units as needed.
- May be assigned to South ED based on staffing needs.
- Participate in Mental Health Crisis Center as part of ED RN rotation.
- Follow cooperative staffing guidelines: if ED census is low, float to Specialty Pediatric Units (Med/Surg), PICU, NICU, or Transitional Care Unit.
- Responsible for care of 1-4 patients depending on acuity and unit.
Required Competencies
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required for RNs)
- Unit-specific competency exam with passing score, updated annually
Health & Background Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within one year of start, updated annually
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for contract renewals
- BCI and FBI fingerprinting completed onsite on first day of orientation (Ohio state law)
- Physical exam within 12 months of start, updated annually
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Tdap vaccine
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray (updated annually)
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) titers or vaccines
- Varicella titer or vaccines
- Hepatitis B titer, vaccine series, or declination form
- 10-panel drug screen completed prior to start, updated if break in service >2 months
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (10/01 - 03/31)
Documentation & History
- Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
- Employment application including 2 years prior clinical practice in acute care and similar area
- Skills checklist updated annually
- Performance evaluations if worked over 1 year; internal evaluations if over 2 years
Additional Notes
- Facility does not accept candidates with corrective action on license.
- Must carry government-issued photo ID during hours of service.
- Scrub color: Navy scrubs with navy or black scrub pants.
