Job Summary: Registered Nurse - Travel/Contract

Location: Newark, New Jersey
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse
  • Experience Required: Minimum 1.5 years of experience
  • Unit Types: General pediatrics, hematology/oncology, orthopedics, surgical
  • Float Assignments: May float to PICU and NICU; additional float units possible based on skill set and hospital needs
  • Schedule: Every other weekend (Saturday/Sunday)
  • Patient Ratio: 1:5
  • Charting System: EPIC
  • Scrub Color: Navy
  • Travel Experience: First-time travelers accepted (no prior travel experience required)

Required Experience & Certifications

  • Chemotherapy/Oncology experience required
  • General pediatrics experience required
  • Certifications Required:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • Preferred Certifications:
    • APHON (Association of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nurses)
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
    • OCN (Oncology Certified Nurse)

Important Compliance & Documentation Requirements

Background Checks

  • Criminal background check within 30 days of start
  • Must include all aliases, all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
  • Nationwide and sex offender checks required
  • Pending background checks require signed attestation at start
  • No open cases allowed at start

Health & Safety Documents

  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes
  • Physical exam within 12 months, cleared to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease
  • Drug screen within 30 days of start (10-panel minimum)
  • Influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
  • Fit test questionnaire and on-site fit testing mandatory
  • Latex allergy screening questionnaire if applicable
  • Respiratory medical clearance required prior to start and updated annually
  • Color blindness exam if job tasks require color discrimination

Competency Exams & Testing

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required within 72 hours of signing
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for applicable units
  • Pass/fail testing for EKG and medication knowledge with remediation policy
  • Color blind testing within one year of start

Additional Training & Certifications

  • Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) certification required for ER, Pediatric ER, and Behavioral Health RNs (online and in-person portions)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) may be required depending on unit (confirm with program coordinator)
  • Chemotherapy certification required (ONS/ONCC for adults, APHON for pediatrics)
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification required for Mother-Baby, Couplet Care, Postpartum, and Labor & Delivery RNs

References & Work History

  • Two references within the last 2 years required (one managerial)
  • Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history required
  • Work history verification required for New Jersey candidates (minimum 1 year prior to start)

Scheduling & Floating Policy

  • Block or special scheduling only accommodated if approved at booking
  • Floating required to PICU, NICU, and possibly other units based on hospital needs
  • Must complete floating policy documentation for every new assignment or site transfer

Notes

  • Candidates must bring all required documentation to orientation and first day
  • All certifications and health documents must be current and valid as per facility requirements
  • Facility uses EPIC for charting
  • Navy scrub color required
