Job Summary: Registered Nurse - Travel/Contract in Newark, New Jersey

Contract Details

  • Length: 13 weeks

Specialty & Experience Requirements

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse
  • Required Experience: Minimum 1.5 years of experience
  • Required Specialty Experience: Chemotherapy/Oncology experience required
  • Additional Experience: Must have general pediatrics experience
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not required (first-time travelers accepted)

Unit & Float Information

  • Unit Types: General pediatrics, hematology/oncology, orthopedics, surgical
  • Float Units: May float to PICU and NICU; additional float units possible based on skill set and hospital needs
  • Patient Ratio: 1:5

Schedule

  • Every Other Weekend (Saturday/Sunday)
  • Block/special scheduling only if approved at booking

Certifications & Licenses Required

  • Mandatory:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
    • Chemotherapy Certification (Adult or Pediatric as applicable)
  • Preferred:
    • APHON (Association of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nurses)
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
    • OCN (Oncology Certified Nurse)
  • Additional Certifications May Be Required Depending on Unit:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - required for some units but NOT required for Oncology Chemo Certified RN
    • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) - required for Mother-Baby, Labor & Delivery RNs
    • Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) - required for ER, Pediatric ER, Behavioral Health RNs
    • NIH Stroke Certification - required for Pediatric ER and other critical care units
  • Licensing:
    • Valid RN license with legal last name matching documentation
    • NURSYS verification as applicable

Required Competencies & Exams

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (within 72 hours of signing)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (required for critical care and emergency units)
  • Color Blind Testing (within 1 year, if applicable)
  • Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication) with remediation policy

Health & Background Requirements

  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes
  • Physical exam within the last 12 months, cleared to perform essential job functions
  • Drug screen within 30 days of start (10-panel minimum)
  • Influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
  • Fit test and Respiratory Medical Clearance (mandatory on-site fit testing)
  • Latex Allergy Questionnaire (if applicable)
  • Immunizations and titers required for:
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Varicella
    • Hepatitis B
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap

Documentation & Compliance

  • Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history
  • Two references within the last 2 years (one managerial)
  • Background checks including criminal, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and state-specific exclusions (New Jersey Department of Treasury Exclusions List)
  • Various facility-specific documents and attestations including floating policy, annual education sign-off, vendor medical clearance, and more
  • Annual education and competency updates as required

Additional Notes

  • Charting system used: EPIC
  • Scrub color: Navy
  • Block/special scheduling requires approval at booking
  • Must include Return to Office (RTO) with submission
  • Candidates may be required to float to other units based on hospital needs and skill set

This position is ideal for a Registered Nurse with pediatric and oncology experience who is flexible with floating and weekend scheduling, holds required certifications, and is prepared to comply with comprehensive health and background screening requirements.
