Job Summary: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Contract Length: 16 weeks
Position Details
- Unit: 6900 GI/GU
- Shift: Primarily 1900-0730 (night shift)
- First week: day shift hours (0700-1700)
- Patient Ratios: 1:4-6
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours/week
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- On-call: No
- Floating: Within service line only
- Block Schedule: Not accommodated
- Locals Accepted: No (must be outside 75-mile radius)
- Pending License Accepted: Yes
- Return to Office Restrictions: No more than 7 days
Experience & Skills Requirements
- Specialty: Medical-Surgical Nursing with GI/GU focus
- Required Years of Experience: 2 years in Med/Surg (highest requirement)
- Prior Travel Experience: Not accepted for first-timers (prior travel experience required)
- Required Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- Epic electronic health record experience required
- Required Skills:
- Med/Surg nursing
- Telemetry (remote monitoring)
- Colostomy care
- Feeding tube care and management
- Blood product administration
- Central line blood draws
- Peripheral line care/management
- Phlebotomy
- PICC line management
- Starting IVs
- Heparin, Insulin, PCA management
- Additional Competencies:
- Must pass Relias EKG exam (Interpretation/Management of Dysrhythmias required)
- Basic knowledge of telemetry preferred
- Special Procedures/Unit Details:
- Foley catheter care
- Continuous bladder irrigation (CBI)
- TURPS protocols
- Colorectal patient protocols
- Patient Diagnoses:
- Ostomy, colon resection, colon cancer, bladder cancer, GU issues, medical overflow
- High turnover surgery patient unit

Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background Checks:
- Criminal background check within 6 months (7-year search including statewide and nationwide)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM quarterly checks
- HHS/OIG quarterly checks
- Education verification required
- State-specific searches and registries as applicable
- Certifications:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only, may be required by unit
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA only, if applicable
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - if applicable
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - required for some units if extending past 9 months
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) or MAB (Management of Assaultive Behavior) if applicable
- NIH Stroke Certification - if applicable
- IV Certification for LPN/LVN if applicable
- Competency Exams:
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required
- Unit-specific competency exam (including oncology if applicable)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually
- Health Documents:
- Physical exam within 1 year
- Fit mask test (N95) annually
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine or declination
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray (2 negative PPDs or T-Spot/Q-Gold within 1 year)
- Immunizations or immunity documentation for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella
- Drug testing within 1 year, must include specific panels and be current throughout assignment
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season (09/30 - 04/01)
- Facility Specific Documents:
- HIPAA Acknowledgement (annual)
- Latex Allergy Questionnaire (annual)
- Confidentiality Form (annual)
- Regulatory Compliance Education (annual, via WorkRamp)
- Hepatitis B declination form (annual)
- TB Questionnaire (annual)
- Hand Hygiene Policy acknowledgment
- Fingernail Policy acknowledgment
- Dress Code Policy acknowledgment
- Orientation Modules (required for all RNs and LVNs, approx. 16 hours, completed prior to start)
- Badge photo (head and shoulders, white background, no obstructions, taken within 6 months)
- References:
- Two professional references required (supervisors preferred)
- RNFAs require additional references submitted directly to facility
Additional Notes
- Candidates must have excellent documentation skills and a desire to work as a team.
- IV skills and phlebotomy are mandatory.
- Candidates must be able to work every other weekend.
- No on-call responsibilities.
- Floating is limited to within the service line.
- Parking fees apply for day shifts; no charge for straight night shifts.
- Candidates must adhere to all facility policies including dress code and hand hygiene.
This position is ideal for experienced Med/Surg RNs with prior travel contract experience who are proficient in telemetry, IV therapy, and specialized GI/GU nursing care, and who are comfortable working night shifts in a high-acuity, fast-paced environment.
