Pediatric ER Registered Nurse (RN) - Travel/Contract
Location: Albuquerque, New Mexico
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Overview
- Specialty: Pediatric Emergency Room Registered Nurse
- Facility Type: Level I Trauma, Teaching, Children’s Hospital, Short-term acute care
- Patient Ratios: Typically 1:4 (days, nights, weekends), may increase during busy periods
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours/week
- Weekend Requirement: Travelers scheduled for weekends as needed (Saturday, Sunday, and weekend nights include Friday)
- On-call: Not required
- Floating: May float within scope to Pediatric admission floors as needed
- Block Scheduling: Not guaranteed
- Locals: No locals within 75 miles accepted
- Pending License: Accepted
Experience Requirements
- Minimum Specialty Experience: 2 years pediatric experience required
- Must have pediatric experience in either a combined Adult/Pediatric ED or Pediatric ED
- Trauma/resuscitation experience preferred
- First-time travelers accepted with strong experience
- Prior travel experience: Not explicitly required
Certifications Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- NIH Stroke Certification
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course) - must have prior to signing
- Additional preferred certifications:
- Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB)
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure) - RQI not acceptable
- Pass/Fail Testing: Relias Basic Dysrhythmia Exam required with minimum scores (80% overall, 100% lethal arrhythmia section)
Special Requirements & Skills
- Pediatric dosage calculations
- Triage experience
- Phlebotomy
- Starting IVs
- Interpretation of 12 Lead EKG and cardiac dysrhythmias
- Ability to manage admission holds during high census periods
Compliance & Documentation
- COVID vaccination required (religious and medical exemptions accepted with provider-signed exemption form)
- Valid non-local driver’s license required (no local ID accepted)
- Background checks: 7-year criminal history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, fingerprinting onsite during orientation
- Education verification required (diploma or transcript acceptable if 3rd party verification unavailable)
- Physical exam within 1 year prior to start
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Drug screening within 30 days of start (negative result required)
- Annual flu vaccination or approved exemption required
- Various health immunizations required:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (declination, series, or titer)
- Varicella (2 vaccines or positive IGG titer)
- Cerner training attestation required for new orientation groups (optional test-out available)
- Medication and pharmacology competency exams required
Additional Notes
- No RQI certifications accepted for required certifications
- Must complete UNMH traveler compliance forms and orientation materials prior to start
- Facility uses Cerner for charting
- Parking available at no cost
- RTO (Return to Office) restrictions: absences greater than 7 days require approval
- OT applies after 48 hours worked on contracts signed on or after 10/30/2025
This position is ideal for experienced Pediatric ER RNs looking for a travel contract in a Level I Trauma and teaching children’s hospital setting with a strong emphasis on pediatric emergency care skills and certifications.
