Shift Information

• 8 and 10 hour shifts totaling 40 hours per week
• 3 shifts of 12 hours = 36 hours per week
• 4 shifts of 12 hours = 48 hours per week

Required Certifications

• BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only, RQI acceptable
• NIH Stroke Certification (required for ER RNs)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) preferred
• Additional preferred certifications: PALS, NRP, CHEMO, TNCC, EFM (per unit requirements)

Skillset & Unit Information

• Med/Surg experience
• Pre/post neurosurgery care
• Total joint replacements
• Trauma Level I-IV experience
• IV start required
• Preferred: Ortho trauma, interpretation/management of dysrhythmias

Units include:
Orthopedic, GYN, Urology, Neurosurgery, Medical patients, Total Joint Replacements, Continuous Bladder Irrigation, Hysterectomy, Chest Tubes, ENT Surgery, Bone Fractures, and various medical diagnoses (COPD, Pneumonia, UTI, Cellulitis, COVID, Small Bowel Obstruction, etc.)

Licensing & Compliance

• Must have valid Indiana RN license verified online within 30 days before start
• Background checks required within 90 days of start, including 7 years of residence/work history, criminal, sex offender, and education verification
• Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start
• Physical exam within 12 months of start
• Fit mask test within 12 months of start (specific respirators approved)
• Immunizations and titers required:

  • TB test within 1 year
  • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required (no declinations accepted)
  • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required (no declinations accepted)
  • Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination required
  • Flu vaccination/documentation required for flu season (no declinations accepted)
• Competency exams and medication/pharmacology test required
• References: Minimum 2 from recent employment with supervisory titles, verified within 2 years

Additional Notes

• IU Health will not allow Indiana RNs to work at their facilities after 11/30/2024, except for Periop/OR RN’s, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers (including ENDO, IR RN, PACU, Cath Lab RN, SDS)

This position requires a strong clinical background in med/surg and trauma nursing, flexibility to float across units, and compliance with strict licensing, certification, and health documentation standards. Prior travel experience is not required, making it suitable for first-time travel nurses.
