- Ortho PCU blended unit
- Locals allowed at same rate
- Every Other Week (EOW) schedule
Experience Requirements
- Specialty: Registered Nurse

- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement (HIPAA) required
Background & Compliance Checks
- Criminal background check within 60 days of start, including:
- All states lived/worked in past 7 years
- State of permanent residence
- VA Statewide Repository Search
- SS Trace
- All counties lived/worked in past 7 years
- Nationwide check
- FACIS Level 3
- Sex Offender Registry
- Education Verification (diploma accepted in lieu)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
- Fingerprinting: Virginia State Police National Criminal Background Check fingerprint results required for:
- All Pediatrics units
- All NICU units
- Behavioral Health
- Labor and Delivery
- Fingerprint results can pend at start if proof of submission is on file
- Virginia Central Registry (CPS) search and results required for all RNs in Pediatrics, NICU, Behavioral Health, and Labor and Delivery units; submission must be completed within 48 hours of contract signing
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year attesting ability to meet physical demands
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine or declination required
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray (Q-gold/T-spot within 30 days of start OR two PPDs with one within 30 days of start)
- TB questionnaire required annually for all candidates
- Titers required for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Varicella
- Hepatitis B: titer, vaccine series, or declination required
- Drug testing within 60 days of start (9-panel minimum, instant drug screens not accepted)
- Seasonal Flu vaccination or exemption required for 2025-26 season (declinations not accepted; agency exemption form allowed)
Competency & Skills
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam required as applicable
- Color Blind Testing required
- Abuse Reporting Competency required (covering physical/sexual abuse, domestic violence, neglect/exploitation of elderly or incapacitated adults)
- Skills checklist required and must be updated annually
Orientation & Facility Specifics
- Exams/tests at orientation include:
- Pharmacology Exam
- Point of Care Testing
- Airborne Precaution Mask Fitting
- Basic Knowledge Assessment Tool (BKAT) for Tele/Step-Down, Progressive Care, ICU (peds and adults)
- Candidates assigned modules on VCU Learning Exchange during orientation; must complete within orientation week (~6 hours)
- Candidates must bring:
- Mask (cloth acceptable)
- Headphones (non-wireless)
- Laptop or cell phone (notify if not available)
References & Documentation
- Two professional references required
- Complete application/resume required
- Performance evaluations completed at end of assignment (not required prior to start)
