Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (MS/Tele RN)

Location: Rochester, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract

Job Details

  • Specialty: Medical-Surgical / Telemetry Registered Nurse
  • Patient Ratios:
    • Day/Evening: 5:1 (stretch 6-7)
    • Night: 6-7:1 (stretch 8-10 if staff calls in)
  • Support Staff: PCTs perform vital signs, blood glucose checks, EKGs, and ADLs; in-house phlebotomy team handles peripheral lab draws. Nurses responsible for PICC and central lines.
  • Floating: Required to float within scope between MS, ICU, and ED units.
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (EOW)
  • Locals Accepted: No locals within 75 miles
  • Pending License Accepted: No
  • Block Scheduling: Facility will try to accommodate but not guaranteed
  • On-call: Not required

Experience & Certifications

  • Required Years of Experience: Minimum 1 year in specialty
  • First-time Travelers: Accepted
  • Required Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA Provider/Instructor/RQI accepted
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA Provider/Instructor/RQI accepted, as required by unit
    • Other certifications may be required depending on unit (PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM, NIH Stroke Certification)
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required

Clinical Skills & Special Requirements

  • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
  • Use of Rapid Response Teams
  • Peripheral line care/management
  • Oxygen delivery devices: nasal cannula, oxygen face masks, portable oxygen tanks
  • Non-invasive airway management
  • Isolation precautions
  • Patient diagnoses primarily cardiac and stroke
  • Use of hoyer lifts
  • Epic charting system preferred

Licensing & Compliance

  • State License: Primary source verification required within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS Verification: Required within 30 days for RN license
  • Background Checks:
    • 7-year criminal background check (felony checks) within 3 months of start
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 3 months and monthly thereafter
    • Education verification from primary source required
  • Education: Transcript/diploma required if no prior verification on file
  • Photo ID: Government-issued photo ID required
  • References: 2 references within 3 years required for Aya candidates
  • Employment Verification: At least 2 past employments verified

Health & Safety Requirements

Candidates must complete health-related requirements and lab work within 5 days of signing contract:

  • Physical exam (within 1 year, updated annually)
  • Fit mask test (within 1 year, updated annually)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (within 1 year)
  • TB questionnaire (in lieu of annual TB test)
  • Immunizations or proof of immunity:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (including surface AB positive titer or declination)
    • Varicella
  • Drug screening within 30 days of start
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination (required during flu season)
  • Eye exam (Snellen) within 1 year
  • COVID vaccination preferred but not required

Additional Notes

  • No holiday requests off allowed; no more than 7 days off total
  • Scrub color: any combination of navy and white
  • Facility uses Epic for charting

This position is ideal for a Registered Nurse with at least 1 year of experience in medical-surgical or telemetry nursing, comfortable floating between units, and able to meet comprehensive health and compliance requirements.
