Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Madison, Wisconsin
Facility: Pediatric ICU at a nationally recognized children's hospital

Job Details

• Shift: 12-hour shifts, rotating every 3 weeks between day (7:00am-7:30pm) and night (7:00pm-7:30am) shifts
• Schedule: Monday through Friday, every other weekend, some holidays required
• Contract Length: 13 weeks

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 3 years of experience in a high acuity hospital setting (for first-time travelers)
• Strong Pediatric ICU experience required
• At least 1 year of cardiovascular (CV) experience required
• Must have completed 2 years of acute care experience within the last 3 years
• Candidates with strong Level II experience may be considered
• Prior travel experience is NOT required

Licensure & Certifications

• Wisconsin Registered Nurse license or compact license from permanent address state
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification through American Heart Association (AHA) only
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification through AHA
• EPIC experience required (preferably within the past 12 months)
• Telemetry: Basic Arrhythmia experience required; must pass Telemetry test prior to start

Education

• Baccalaureate degree in nursing preferred

Job Responsibilities

• Provide family-centered care to critically ill or injured children in a 21-bed pediatric ICU unit
• Care for patients with a variety of medical and surgical problems including:

  • Acute head injuries
  • Critical neurological disorders
  • Pulmonary diseases
  • Cardiac anomalies
  • Organ transplantation
  • Multi-system organ failure
  • ECMO support
• Floating between units may be required based on staffing needs

Facility Requirements

• Traveler’s permanent address must be within 50 miles of the primary work site
• Parking permit required if parking onsite; alternative transportation options available

Testing & Competency Requirements

• Must pass Pediatric Telemetry Test (WorkRamp LMS) prior to start and annually thereafter
• Medication/Pharmacology competency exams as applicable
• Pass/Fail testing for EKG/Medication required with strict deadlines and remediation process
• Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement required

Health & Immunization Requirements

• Proof of Tdap vaccination (one dose from adulthood) required
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes
• MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titers required; medical/religious exemptions considered
• Varicella vaccination or positive titer required; medical/religious exemptions considered
• Hepatitis B vaccination series or declination form required for direct patient care providers
• Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
• Drug screening required per agency standards

Background & Compliance

• Background check within 90 days prior to start, including SSN trace, county, nationwide, and sex offender searches
• Wisconsin Caregiver Screening required within 90 days of start
• Education verification as applicable
• Various state and facility-specific compliance documents required

Additional Notes

• This is a travel/contract position with a multidisciplinary team in a Magnet®-designated pediatric hospital
• The hospital is a Level One Pediatric Trauma Center and Level IV NICU
• Floating between units may occur if primary unit staffing needs change
