Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Madison, Wisconsin
Facility: Pediatric ICU at a nationally recognized children's hospital
Job Details
- Shift: Evening/Night, 12-hour shifts (7:00pm - 7:30am)
- Schedule: Monday through Friday, every other weekend, some holidays required
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of experience in high acuity hospital settings (1st time travelers allowed with this experience)
- Strong Pediatric ICU experience required
- At least 1 year of cardiovascular (CV) experience required
- Must have completed 2 years of acute care experience within the last 3 years
- Candidates with strong Level II experience may be considered
- Prior travel experience is NOT required
Licensure & Certifications
- Wisconsin Registered Nurse license or compact license from permanent address state
- BLS (American Heart Association only)
- PALS (American Heart Association only)
- ACLS certification required (per unit description)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification recommended
- EPIC experience required (preferably within past 12 months)
Education
- Baccalaureate degree in nursing preferred
Clinical Competencies & Testing
- Basic Arrhythmia experience required
- Must pass Telemetry test prior to start (Pediatric Telemetry Test required for all pediatric inpatient units)
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as applicable
- Pass/Fail testing for EKG/Medication required annually
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement required
Job Responsibilities
- Provide family-centered care to critically ill or injured children in a 21-bed pediatric ICU
- Care for patients with acute head injuries, neurological disorders, pulmonary diseases, cardiac anomalies, organ transplantation, multi-system organ failure, and ECMO
- Floating required: may be assigned to multiple units or locations based on staffing needs
Facility Requirements
- Candidate’s permanent address must be within 50 miles of the primary work site
- Parking permit required if parking onsite; alternative transportation options available
Health & Compliance Requirements
- Background checks including SSN trace, nationwide, sex offender, and caregiver screening (WI state mandated)
- Drug screening required (standard 9-panel)
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- Tdap vaccination (one dose from adulthood)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray (with specific testing protocols)
- MMR (2 doses or positive titers)
- Varicella (2 doses or positive titer)
- Hepatitis B vaccination series or declination form
- Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption (annual requirement)
- Meningococcal vaccine or declination (for certain departments)
- Physical exam recommended (not required by facility)
- Photo for badge required (passport-style, no selfies or headwear except religious/medical)
Additional Notes
- Strict testing and remediation process for Telemetry exams with up to 3 attempts allowed
- Education verification and state license verification required within 30 days of start
- Facility is Magnet® designated and a Level One Pediatric Trauma Center with Level IV NICU
