Registered Nurse (RN) - Travel/Contract

Location: Madison, Wisconsin
Facility: Pediatric ICU at a nationally recognized children's hospital

Job Details

• Shift: 12-hour shifts, rotating every 3 weeks between day (7:00am-7:30pm) and night (7:00pm-7:30am) shifts
• Schedule: Monday through Friday, every other weekend, some holidays required
• Contract Length: 13 weeks

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 3 years of experience in a high acuity hospital setting (for first-time travelers)
• Strong Pediatric ICU experience required
• At least 1 year of cardiovascular (CV) experience required
• Must have completed 2 years of acute care experience within the last 3 years
• Candidates with strong Level II experience may be considered
• Prior travel experience is NOT required (1st time travelers allowed)

Licensure & Certifications

• Wisconsin Registered Nurse license or compact license from permanent address state
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification through American Heart Association (AHA) only
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification through AHA
• EPIC experience required (preferably within the past 12 months)
• Telemetry: Basic Arrhythmia experience required; must pass Telemetry test prior to start

Education

• Baccalaureate degree in nursing preferred

Job Responsibilities

• Provide family-centered care to critically ill or injured pediatric patients in a 21-bed unit
• Care for patients with a variety of medical and surgical problems including:

  • Acute head injuries
  • Critical neurological disorders
  • Pulmonary diseases
  • Cardiac anomalies
  • Organ transplantation
  • Multi-system organ failure
  • ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation)

Facility & Work Environment

• Magnet®-designated pediatric medical and surgical center
• Level One Pediatric Trauma Center and Level IV NICU
• Floating required: may be assigned to multiple units or locations based on staffing needs
• Candidate’s permanent address must be within 50 miles of the primary work site

Testing & Compliance Requirements

• Must pass Pediatric Telemetry Test (WorkRamp LMS) prior to start and annually thereafter
• Pass/Fail testing required for EKG/Medication and Telemetry competency
• Background checks including caregiver screening, education verification, and state-specific searches required
• Drug screening required per standard clinical guidelines
• Immunizations and health documents required:

  • Tdap vaccination (proof of one dose from adulthood)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titers, with medical/religious exemptions accepted
  • Varicella vaccination or positive titer, with exemptions accepted
  • Hepatitis B vaccination series or declination form
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required annually
  • Other vaccines as applicable (e.g., Meningococcal for certain departments)

Additional Notes

• Must complete facility-specific forms such as caregiver screening and communicable disease forms within 90 days of start
• Orientation includes safety manual acknowledgment and competency exams
• Parking permit required if parking onsite; alternative transportation options available
