Registered Nurse (RN) - PCU (General Medicine/Observation)
Location: Roanoke, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift Details
- Typical shifts: 3x12 hour shifts
- 4x12 hour shifts available by request
- Contract length options: 13 to 52 weeks available by request
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week block
- Holiday requirement: Must work one holiday per 13-week contract
- Call-off policy: Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
- Floating: Required to float within skillset
Required Experience & Skills
- Specialty: Registered Nurse with experience in Telemetry, PCU, DOU, IMC, and stepdown units
- Proficient in cardiac monitoring, emergency response, dysrhythmia management, use of Rapid Response and Code teams
- Experience administering cardiac drips (Cardizem, Heparin, Insulin, low-dose dopamine/dobutamine, Amiodarone, Nitro, Bumex, Lasix) with no titration
- IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, central and peripheral line care
- Competency in chest tubes, trach care, PICC line management, medication administration
- Respiratory skills including nasal cannula, oxygen administration, CPAP, BiPAP, and non-invasive airway management
- Charting experience with EPIC required

Unit Details
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: Goal 4:1, typically 5:1
- Telemetry monitoring is remote but monitors remain on the unit
- Tele-sitting support available via Patient Care Techs
Licensure
- Must have an active Virginia State or Compact RN/LPN license
- Pending license accepted only if holding a single-state license from a non-compact state
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- I9 or attestation required
- Valid Driver’s License/State ID with address within 100 miles of facility required
- E-Verify or attestation required
- Background check: 7-year history required within 1 year of start
- Education verification of highest earned degree required
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, free from communicable diseases
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
- Fit test within 1 year of start, updated annually
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually
- Required immunizations or titers: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
- Flu vaccination documentation or declination form required during flu season
- 2 clinical references required
- Skills checklist updated annually
Additional Notes
- Locals accepted within radius rule
- Orientation manual review required prior to start (not required for inpatient RNs)
- Must work at least one holiday per contract
- Floating within skillset expected
