Job Opportunity: CVOR Registered Nurse (RN)
Location: South Bend, Indiana
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) Registered Nurse
- Shift: 4x10 hour day shifts (06:00 - 16:30)
- Call Requirements:
- 2-3 overnight shifts per week
- Every 3rd weekend on call
- Holiday rotation
- Weekend Requirement: Weekend call rotation
- Patient Ratios:
- Typically 1 patient per case
- Open heart cases usually have 2 circulating RNs plus 2 scrub team members (CST or RN)
- Other surgeries may have 1 RN and 1-3 scrub personnel (RN, CST, RNFA, NP, PA, etc.)
- Traditional inpatient RN-to-patient ratios do not apply in surgery
Experience & Requirements
- Required Years of Specialty Experience: 2 years
- First-time travel nurses accepted: Yes
- Prior Travel Experience Required: No indication that prior travel experience is required
- Certifications Required:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- Licensing:
- Pending license accepted if active by start date
- Local Radius Rule: Must live outside of 50 miles (locals not accepted)
- Floating:
- CVOR candidates may be floated to the main OR if no heart cases are available
- Floating between facilities for open heart team call coverage on weekends and occasional weekday staffing is possible but not required
- Special Skills:
- Must self-rate 3 or higher on majority of cardiovascular cases listed
- Cerner charting experience required
- Open heart and scrub experience preferred

Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background check covering last 7 years and all states lived/worked in, required within 90 days of start
- Education verification or copy of diploma/transcripts required
- Physical exam required
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start (T-Spots not accepted)
- Required immunizations or titers:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
- Varicella
- Negative 12-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
- Flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required prior to assignment start (flu season October–May)
- COVID vaccine exemptions allowed with proper medical or religious documentation
- Facility-specific modules (approx. 8-10 hours) must be completed prior to start
Additional Notes
- On-call and weekend requirements may vary depending on contract specifics
- Floating within scope of practice may be required to meet facility needs
- Candidates must be comfortable with occasional floating between related facilities for coverage purposes
This position is ideal for experienced CVOR RNs with open heart and scrub experience who are comfortable with a travel contract and flexible scheduling including call and weekend rotations.
