Registered Nurse - Travel/Contract Position

Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Setting: Home Health
  • Shift: Days, 5x8 (08:00 AM - 4:30 PM)
  • Patient Load: 5-20 visits per day on average
  • Weekend Requirement: Every 4th weekend (Saturday and Sunday) with 2 days off around the weekend (Thursday and Monday)
  • On-Call Requirement: Yes, 3-5 nights per month; on-call nights will not be scheduled on days off
  • Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours per week
  • Floating: No floating outside scope of practice
  • Mileage Radius: 40-80 miles (mileage reimbursed)
  • Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: 7 days notice required for contract termination before 13 weeks
  • Locals Accepted: No
  • Pending License Accepted: Yes

Experience & Requirements

  • Years of Experience Required: Minimum 1-2 years in Med Surg or acute care OR minimum 1 year in home care experience (higher value applies: 2 years)
  • Home Health Experience: Required, including all visit types and case management experience
  • First-Timers Accepted: Yes
  • Certifications Required:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • Skills & Knowledge:
    • Phlebotomy, pleurx, catheters, port access and maintenance
    • PT/INR finger sticks
    • Wound vac and wound care
    • Ventilator knowledge
    • Compression wraps/layered compression
    • Cardiac care including CADD pumps, handheld ECG monitor, telemetry interpretation
    • IV infusion/line care/lab draws, venipuncture for labs
    • Foley/supra-pubic catheter care
    • Ostomy care
  • EMR System: EPIC (Home Health EPIC EMR experience preferred)

Clinical Teams & Duties

  • MS Team: Antibiotic infusion, lab draws, IV care, ostomy care, tube feeding, wound vac, Foley care, disease management, patient education, socioeconomic and medical needs assessment
  • Cardiac Team: Infusions (inotropes, dobutamine, milrinone), IVP Lasix, post-op care

Scheduling & Work Environment

  • Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM
  • On-call and holiday rotation included
  • Diverse patient population with high acuity and limited resources

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background Checks: Criminal background check within 6 months, including statewide and nationwide searches
  • Education Verification: Highest nursing education must be verified before start
  • Licenses: Primary source verification required; Missouri licenses verified via NURSYS
  • Drug Testing: Required within 1 year of start, must include standard drug panels and be valid throughout assignment
  • Health Documents:
    • Physical exam within 1 year
    • Fit mask test (annual renewal)
    • Tdap vaccine or declination
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
    • Immunizations or immunity documentation for Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
  • Competency Exams: Medication/pharmacology competency and unit-specific competency exams required annually
  • References: Two professional references required (supervisors preferred)
  • Skills Checklist: Unit-specific skills checklist required within 1 year of start

Additional Facility-Specific Requirements

  • Completion of orientation modules through WorkRamp prior to start (approximately 16 hours)
  • Compliance with facility policies including hand hygiene, fingernail, dress code, and confidentiality
  • Required to sign HIPAA acknowledgement, latex allergy questionnaire, and regulatory compliance education annually
  • Return of all issued equipment and supplies upon contract completion
