Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job - Lafayette, Indiana

Job Details

  • Unit: Mixed Acuity Unit (Medical patients with some PCU level care)
    • Includes oncology, stroke, cardiac, gastrointestinal, and pulmonary care
    • Patient ratios: MS patients 1:5-6, PCU patients 1:3-4
  • Patient Care:
    • Care for unstable stroke patients, BiPAP patients
    • Use of drips including Cardizem, Amiodarone, Insulin, Lasix
    • Post Heart Cath and Post Pacemaker care
  • Experience Required: Solid Neuro experience required; will accept MS/Tele or PCU RNs
  • Locals: Not accepted (travelers only)
  • License: Must have Indiana state, compact, or Indiana temporary license prior to start

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (AHA only, RQI acceptable)
  • BLS (AHA only, RQI acceptable)
  • NIH Stroke Certification (required for ER RNs)
  • Additional certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., CHEMO, TNCC, PALS, NRP)

Important Notes

  • Effective 11/30/2024, Indiana RNs are generally not allowed to work at this facility except for Periop/OR RN travelers and certain allied/ambulatory RN travelers.
  • Must confirm experience with specific drips and procedures before placement.

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Valid Driver’s License or Passport (clear copy)
  • Background checks including:
    • 7-year history criminal and employment verification
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
  • Education verification and official transcripts/diplomas
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam
  • Unit competency exam
  • Color Blind Testing (Ishihara or equivalent, 100% score required)
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Fit mask test within 12 months (specific approved respirators required)
  • Immunizations and titers:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (preferred)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella (positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted)
    • Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination
    • Seasonal Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption (no declinations accepted)
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months
  • References: Minimum 2 from recent employment with appropriate supervisory titles
  • Employment application with full work history and explanations for gaps
  • Skills checklist within 12 months, updated annually

This position is ideal for experienced RNs with strong neurological skills who are comfortable working in a dynamic mixed acuity environment and meet the comprehensive certification and compliance requirements.
