Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Knoxville, Tennessee
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend or 2 weekends per month
  • Float required
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:8 (may use team nursing model with ratios greater than 8)
  • Must pass EKG testing before start date (required for all Medsurg nurses regardless of subspecialty)
  • Travelers requesting time off during holidays will generally not be accommodated (holidays include Valentine's Day, Local Spring Break, Easter, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Local Fall Break, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day)

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - required for all candidates
  • NIHSS (NIH Stroke Scale) - required for all RN candidates
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - preferred
  • Other certifications may be required depending on unit assignment (e.g., PALS, NRP, CHEMO, OCN, TNCC, EFM, CPI)

Competency Requirements

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required)
  • Color Blind Testing (required within 12 months prior to start)
  • Competency Exam (required)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (required within 12 months, minimum score 80%)
  • Core Competency Exams Part I, II, and III (required annually, minimum 80% pass rate)

  • Immunizations/vaccinations required: MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), Hepatitis B, Varicella, Flu vaccine (for 2025-26 season, no declinations accepted except approved medical/religious exemptions)

Documentation and Onboarding

  • Valid state nursing license required (must be current and not expiring within 45 days of assignment start)
  • NURSYS verification required within 30 days of start
  • Photo for badge with solid background required prior to start
  • Completion of onboarding attestation and review of job description required
  • References: 2 supervisory references from past 3 years required
  • Employment application with 7-year work history and no unexplained gaps over 30 days required
  • Unit-specific skills checklist updated within the last year required

  • Local candidates within 75 miles radius may have different considerations (not detailed here)
