Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Med Surg) - South Carolina (Camden)

Position Details

Contract Length

  • Duration: 13 weeks

Experience & Licensure Requirements

  • Years of Experience: Minimum 2+ years in Med Surg nursing
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not required; first-time travelers accepted
  • Licensure: South Carolina RN license or Compact license must be active prior to start
  • Certifications Required:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • Preferred Skills:
    • IV start skills required
    • Telemetry and management of cardiac drips preferred

Scheduling & Work Conditions

  • Block Scheduling: Approval can be requested but not guaranteed
  • Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
  • Local Candidates: Accepted on a case-by-case basis

Important Seasonal Note

  • Hurricane Season: June through November; travelers may be assigned to emergency response teams during this time. Avoid confirming new or extension assignments during peak months (August and September) if this is a concern.

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Background Checks:
    • Annual background check covering last 7 years of residence/employment
    • Must include SSN trace, state and national criminal checks, sex offender registry, FACIS 3, and others
    • Background check must be run within 90 days of start
  • Education Verification: Required; diploma or transcripts accepted as placeholder if verification pending
  • Licensure Verification: Primary source verification required; must be active and unencumbered
  • NURSYS Verification: Required for all RNs
  • References: Proof of 2 clinical references required; at least one from the same unit preferred
  • Employment History: Verification of last 3 clinical employers required; attestation letters accepted only if other verification methods exhausted
  • Competency Exams: Medication test/pharmacology competency and other unit-specific competency exams required

Certifications Details

  • BLS: Required for all clinical staff; AHA certification only
  • ACLS: Required; AHA or RQI accepted; must be valid beyond 30 days from start
  • PALS: Required only for ER nurses
  • TNCC: Required unless working in ER
  • NRP: Must be through AHA/AAP with full eCard and QR code
  • EFM: AWHONN or NCC accepted
  • IV Certification: Required for select LPNs (not applicable here)
  • NIH Stroke Certification: Required for ER nurses
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement: Required prior to start

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical Exam: Must be completed within 90 days of start; updated annually; must clear candidate to work without restrictions
  • TB Testing: T-spot or Q-Gold within 90 days of start; if positive, chest x-ray and annual questionnaire required
  • Vaccinations:
    • Tdap within 10 years or declination form required
    • Flu vaccine required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30); medical/religious exemptions accepted but no declinations
    • COVID vaccines highly preferred but not required; declination form required if not vaccinated
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; boosters if low titer
    • Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination required
  • Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start; no instant tests accepted
  • Respirator Clearance: Annual medical clearance required via RespSafety virtual questionnaire

Facility Specific Requirements

  • First Day Instructions (FDI) and OurDay Modules: Must be completed prior to start; includes COVID and flu vaccine documentation upload
  • Photo for Badge: Clear, passport-style color photo with solid light background required
  • Job Description: Unit-specific job description must be completed prior to start
  • Orientation Modules: Must be completed before orientation; average 2 hours; must be done on a computer (not phone)
  • Physical Assessment for Sterile Processors: Not applicable for this RN role

This position is suitable for Med Surg RNs with at least 2 years of experience, who hold the appropriate South Carolina or Compact RN license, and possess current BLS and ACLS certifications. Prior travel experience is not required, and first-time travelers are welcome. The role involves night shifts with a 1:6 patient ratio and requires flexibility to float within similar units. Compliance with extensive background checks, health screenings, and facility-specific onboarding modules is mandatory.
