Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Durham, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Requirements
- Minimum Years of Experience: 1 year
- Licensure: NC or Compact license in hand
- Required Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- Additional Skills: See job requirements & qualifications (implied clinical skills for RN)
- Prior Travel Experience: Not required (First-timer OK)
- Work Schedule:
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
- Floating: Yes
- Orientation: Bi-weekly
- Local Candidates: Accepted within 75 miles
- Health Requirements: Flu vaccine required; no exemptions or declinations accepted
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background Checks:
- Must be completed within 90 days of start
- Includes SSN trace, county checks for past 7 years, sex offender, international searches if applicable
- Education verification required
- Drug Testing: Negative 10-panel within 30 days of start; instants not accepted
- Health Documents:
- Physical exam within 12 months
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
- Immunizations: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella, Polio, Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
- Flu seasonal vaccination required for new candidates starting October through March
- References: Two professional references required from employment within last 12 months, at least one supervisor
- Employment Application: Required with 7 years of work history
Additional Notes
- Candidates must set up a Duke Guest Account prior to clearance to access orientation and work systems.
- Competency exams and unit-specific training required during orientation.
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training provided during orientation for applicable units.
- Candidates must complete required online modules prior to orientation.
- All required certifications must be AHA approved (e.g., ACLS, BLS, PALS).
- No exemptions allowed for flu vaccination.
This position is suitable for first-time travel nurses and local candidates within 75 miles. The role requires flexibility with weekend shifts every other weekend and floating assignments.
