Job Summary: Registered Nurse - Travel/Contract

Location: Durham, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Requirements

  • Experience: Minimum 1 year of nursing experience
  • Licensure: North Carolina (NC) or Compact nursing license in hand
  • Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not required (First-timers are welcome)
  • Work Schedule:
    • Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
    • Floating required
  • Local Candidates: Accepted within 75 miles

Orientation & Training

  • Orientation sessions held bi-weekly
  • Flu vaccination is mandatory; no exemptions or declinations accepted

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background checks including SSN trace, county checks for past 7 years, sex offender, international searches (if applicable), education verification, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, OFAC sanctions list search
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months (with specific protocols for positive history)
  • Immunizations required:
    • Flu vaccine (seasonal, mandatory)
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (every 10 years)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (vaccines or positive titers, no exemptions)
    • Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
    • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
    • Polio vaccine or attestation
  • Drug testing: Negative 10-panel within 30 days of start (no instant tests)
  • Two professional references from employment within last 12 months (one must be a supervisor)
  • Employment application and skills checklist (updated annually)

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must set up a Duke Guest Account prior to clearance to access orientation and work systems
  • Competency exams and unit-specific training required
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training provided during orientation (valid for 2 years)
  • Pass/fail testing on EKG/medication knowledge during orientation (not required for RRTs)
  • All required documents must be current and compliant with Duke Health policies
