Job Opportunity: Director of Nursing (Travel/Contract)
Location: Montrose, New York
Specialty: Registered Nurse (Director of Nursing)

Contract Length: Approximately 15 weeks (104 days ≈ 15 weeks)
Facility Overview
- 252-bed long-term care skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility
- Serves qualified Veterans and their dependents
- Organized into six care units, including two memory care units
- Over 350 state and contract staff, with about 170 dedicated to nursing services
Position Summary
The Director of Nursing (DON) is responsible for the overall quality of nursing care on a 24-hour basis. This leadership role involves administrative oversight to ensure optimal care delivery, compliance with federal and state regulations, and collaboration with facility leadership including the Administrator and Medical Director.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and administer nursing services to ensure quality care for all residents
- Develop, implement, and maintain nursing policies and procedures
- Review Patient Review Instruments (PRIs) for admissions
- Supervise and evaluate nursing staff performance
- Oversee Infection Control and Nursing Continuous Quality Improvement programs
- Ensure appropriate nursing care supplies are available
- Communicate resident care issues to the Administrator
- Maintain departmental statistics and submit monthly reports
- Recruit, interview, and recommend nursing staff appointments
- Coordinate nursing care with other departments via Interdisciplinary Team approach
- Manage nursing student affiliations and training programs
- Ensure staff attend mandatory training and meet continuing education requirements
- Develop and modify departmental Continuous Quality Improvement programs
- Utilize technology and modern nursing principles to maximize efficiency
- Serve as a role model promoting positive attitude, customer service, resident accommodation, and resident rights
Minimum Requirements
- Active, unencumbered Registered Nursing license in New York State
- Successful background check and verification of educational credentials and relevant past employment in long-term care or nursing leadership
- Experience:
- At least 2 years as a Director of Nursing OR
- At least 5 years of Nursing Management experience in a long-term care setting (higher value applies → 5 years required)
- Ability to begin assignment immediately upon contract execution
