Registered Nurse - Travel/Contract Position
Location: Saint Louis, Missouri

Job Description
- Setting: Home Health
- Shift: Days, 5 days a week, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM (5x8)
- Patient Load: 5-20 visits per day on average
- Weekend Requirement: Every 4th weekend (Saturday and Sunday). When scheduled for a weekend, 2 days off are given around that weekend (e.g., Thursday and Monday).
- On-Call Requirement: Yes, 3-5 nights per month. On-call nights will not be scheduled on days off.
- Floating: No floating outside scope of practice.
- Territory Coverage: 40-80 miles radius.
- Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours per week.
- Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: 7 days notice required for contract termination before 13 weeks.
Experience & Requirements
- Years of Experience Required: Minimum 1-2 years in Medical-Surgical (MS) or acute care experience OR minimum 1 year in home care experience.
- Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required. First-time travelers accepted.
- Certifications Required:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- Licensing: Pending license accepted.
- Home Health Experience: Required.
- Patient Population: Diverse with high acuity patients and limited resources.
Clinical Skills & Knowledge
- Phlebotomy
- Pleurex, catheters, port access, maintenance and care
- PT/INR finger sticks
- Wound vac / wound care
- Ventilator knowledge
- Compression wraps / layered compression
- Cardiac care including CADD pumps, handheld devices, ECG monitoring, and telemetry interpretation
- Antibiotic infusion, lab draws, IV care, ostomy care, tube feeding, Foley care, disease management, patient education
- Cardiac infusions (inotropes, dobutamine, milrinone), IVP Lasix, post-op care
Documentation & Equipment
- Charting system: EPIC
- Scrub color: Royal blue for nurses
- Close-toed shoes and own stethoscope required
- Must return all issued supplies and equipment upon contract completion (e.g., laptop, cell phone, nursing bag, equipment)
Compliance & Background Requirements
- Government-issued ID and valid driver’s license required
- Criminal background check within 6 months required (7-year search including statewide and national checks)
- Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required
- Education verification of highest nursing degree required
- State-specific background checks and registries as applicable (Missouri and Illinois)
- Drug testing within 1 year of start, must include a comprehensive panel and be current throughout assignment
- Physical exam within 1 year of start required
- Fit mask testing required and must be renewed annually
- Immunizations and health documentation required:
- Tdap (or Td for renewal)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination as applicable
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
- Various facility-specific compliance documents including HIPAA, confidentiality, hand hygiene, dress code, and latex allergy questionnaires must be completed and signed prior to start
- Competency exams and medication/pharmacology tests required and must be updated annually
Additional Notes
- Candidates will be placed on an every 4th weekend rotation and overnight on-call rotation (up to 5 nights/month)
- Mileage reimbursement provided for travel within the coverage radius
- Two professional references required (supervisors preferred)
- Employment application and unit-specific skills checklist required within 1 year of start
- Orientation modules (~16 hours) must be completed prior to start unless completed within the last year or worked at a BJC facility within 6 months
