Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN CVOR - Cardiovascular Operating Room)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Scrub and circulate experience required for cardiac, thoracic, and vascular cases
  • Primary cases: Cardiac and Thoracic; also Vascular (Open and Endovascular Procedures), Transplant (Liver, Kidney, Pancreas), Whipples (Pancreatic Procedures)
  • Required years of experience: 2 years (will consider 1 year if experience is at a Level 1 Trauma Facility)
  • First-time travelers accepted only if more than 2 years experience at a Level 1 Trauma Facility
  • Weekend work required per call policy
  • On-call requirement: 3-4 weekday and 1-2 weekend call shifts per 6-week schedule
  • Rotating shift start times between 6:30 AM and 11:00 PM, Monday through Friday
  • Floating within service line as needed
  • Block scheduling not accommodated
  • Local candidates not accepted (home address must be at least 75 miles from facility)
  • Pending license accepted
  • Return to Office (RTO) restrictions: No more than 7 days

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA only (if applicable)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - AHA or AAP (if applicable)
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - Required if extending past 9 months in Burn ICU
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) Blue Card or MAB (Management of Assaultive Behavior) if applicable
  • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) if applicable
  • NIH Stroke Certification if applicable
  • IV Certification required for LPNs/LVNs at Missouri facilities
  • State License verification and NURSYS verification required
  • Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam as applicable
  • Unit-specific competency exams required and must be updated annually

Experience & Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of specialty experience (default to higher requirement)
  • Prior travel experience not explicitly required
  • Must have scrub and circulate experience in cardiac, thoracic, and vascular surgeries
  • Ability to work on-call shifts and weekends as scheduled
  • Must be willing to float within the service line
  • Must meet local radius rule (75 miles minimum from home)

Compliance & Background Requirements

  • Government-issued ID required
  • Criminal background check within 6 months, including statewide and nationwide searches
  • Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required
  • Education verification required prior to start
  • Fingerprinting required for assignments in Illinois long-term care or rehab units
  • Drug testing within 1 year of start, must include specific panels and be current throughout assignment
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Fit mask testing required and must be renewed annually
  • Immunizations and health documents required:
    • Tdap vaccine or declination
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray with yearly questionnaire
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination as applicable
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
  • HIPAA Acknowledgement, Latex Allergy Questionnaire, Confidentiality Form, Regulatory Compliance Education, and other facility-specific documents must be completed and updated annually
  • Orientation modules required for all RNs and LVNs (except certain allied and BJC West facilities)

Additional Requirements

  • Two professional references required (supervisors preferred)
  • Employment application must be submitted and uploaded
  • Unit-specific skills checklist required within 1 year of start
  • Performance evaluations may be requested but are not mandatory for extensions or per diem

Schedule & Work Conditions

  • Monday through Friday with rotating shifts
  • On-call shifts as per schedule (3-4 weekdays and 1-2 weekends every 6 weeks)
  • May include holiday shifts (discussed in advance)
  • Floating within service line expected

This position is ideal for experienced CVOR RNs with strong scrub and circulate skills in cardiac, thoracic, and vascular surgeries, who are comfortable with on-call and weekend shifts, and meet the specified licensing and compliance requirements.
