Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (MS/Tele)

Location: Rochester, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract

Job Summary

Seeking a Registered Nurse with MS/Tele experience for a travel contract position. The unit is PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown preferred. The role involves managing complex cardiac and respiratory patients with a variety of specialized skills and equipment.


Required Experience & Skills

  • Years of Experience Required: 1 year recent experience in specialty
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not required (first-time travelers accepted)
  • Float: Required (must not practice outside of scope)
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend required
  • Call: As needed

Clinical Skills & Responsibilities

  • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
  • IV insulin protocols and titration of insulin drips
  • Feeding tube care and management
  • Continuous Bladder Irrigation (CBI)
  • Pre/Post Hemodialysis management
  • Blood product administration
  • Central line, peripheral line, and PICC line care/management
  • Starting IVs and heparin protocols
  • Management of cardiac drips (no titration)
  • PCA management
  • Substance withdrawal care
  • Surgical drains care
  • Care of ventilated patients
  • Chest tubes (Emerson/PleurEvac)
  • External CPAP/BIPAP, High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC), nasal cannula, oxygen face masks, portable oxygen tanks
  • Non-invasive airway management and tracheostomy management
  • Isolation precautions
  • Wound care and wound vac management
  • Manage Amiodarone drip
  • Rapid response team activation

  • Acute respiratory failure
  • Congestive heart failure (CHF)
  • COPD exacerbation
  • Pneumonia
  • Sepsis
  • Pulmonary fibrosis
  • Interstitial lung disease (ILD)

Unit Details

  • Day/Evening nurse-to-patient ratio: 5:1 (stretch 6-7)
  • Night nurse-to-patient ratio: 6-7:1 (stretch 8-10 if staff calls in)
  • PCTs available on all units for vital signs, blood glucose checks, EKGs, and ADLs
  • In-house phlebotomy team performs peripheral lab draws; nursing responsible for PICC and central lines

  • BIPAP, CPAP
  • High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC)
  • Chronic ventilators
  • Tracheostomy care
  • Chest tubes

Certifications & Licensure

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA provider/instructor/RQI accepted
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA provider/instructor/RQI accepted
  • PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM as required by unit
  • State RN license required (no pending license accepted)
  • EPIC experience preferred

Orientation & Scheduling

  • Orientation: 4 hours of modules prior to start, 4 hours classroom with educator, remainder of first 12-hour shift spent orienting on unit
  • Open to block scheduling but not guaranteed
  • Return to Office (RTO) restrictions: Keep close to 1 week
  • No locals accepted within 75 miles radius
  • Scrubs: Navy blue/white

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID required
  • 7-year criminal background check within 3 months of start
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 3 months and run monthly
  • Education verification from primary source required
  • Foreign equivalency evaluation if applicable
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually
  • Fit mask test within 1 year, updated annually
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
  • Required immunizations and titers: Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
  • Drug screening within 30 days of start
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination required during flu season
  • Eye exam (Snellen) within 1 year
  • COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required
  • References, employment application, skills checklist, and work history verification required

State-Specific Requirements (New York)

  • NYS Nurse Aide Registry (if applicable) within 3 months of start
  • Fingerprinting and disciplinary action search for certain units
  • Sex offender registry check within 30 days of start
  • Medicaid exclusion list check within 3 months and run monthly
