Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Florence, South Carolina

Position Details

  • Shift: 4 shifts of 12 hours each, nights (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
  • Patient Ratios: Typically 1:6; may flex to 1:7 during unplanned absences
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • On-call Requirement: Yes, PRN for low census
  • Floating: Required to float within scope to like units or sister facilities

Experience & Licensure Requirements

  • Years of Experience: Minimum 2 years preferred
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not required; first-time travelers accepted
  • Licensure: South Carolina RN license or Compact license must be active prior to start
  • Certifications Required:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • Certifications Preferred:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
  • Special Skills:
    • Med/Surg, MS/Tele, Telemetry
    • Insulin administration
    • Rapid Response team experience
  • Electronic Health Record: Epic experience required

Scheduling & Work Conditions

  • Block Scheduling: May be requested but not guaranteed
  • Local Candidates: Not accepted
  • Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift every 2 weeks
  • Travel Radius: 60 miles

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Background Checks:
    • Annual background check covering last 7 years of residence/employment
    • Includes SSN trace, state and national criminal checks, sex offender registry, FACIS 3, and international searches
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
  • Education Verification: Not required for this facility
  • Licensure Verification: Primary source verification required; SC RN license processing times vary (3-5 weeks for permanent, 24-48 business hours for walk-through/temp license)
  • NURSYS Verification: Required for all RNs
  • Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start; no instant tests accepted
  • Physical Exam: Initial and annual physical exam attesting ability to meet job demands
  • Immunizations & Health Requirements:
    • Tdap within 10 years or declination form required
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 90 days of start (2-step PPD or Quantiferon Gold not accepted)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines; boosters required if low titer
    • Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination required
    • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines; boosters if low titer
    • Flu Vaccine: Required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30); medical/religious exemptions accepted but declinations are not
    • COVID-19 Vaccines: Not required but highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
  • Respirator Clearance: Annual medical clearance required for patient-facing staff
  • References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
  • Performance Evaluation: Must be dated within 12 months of start
  • Skills Checklist: Must be updated annually
  • Radiation Badge: Required only for OR, Cath Lab, EP Lab, and Radiology travelers (not required for this MedSurg role)

Orientation & Facility Specifics

  • Orientation Modules: Must be completed prior to start; estimated 4 hours for this location
  • Photo for Badge: Passport-style photo required
  • Acknowledgments & Agreements: Candidates must sign assignment acknowledgment, code of conduct, confidentiality agreements, and system user agreements prior to start
  • Employee Info & HR Policies: Must be reviewed and completed before starting
  • Documentation Upload: COVID and flu vaccine documentation must be uploaded into the facility’s platform prior to start

This position offers a structured night shift schedule with a supportive staffing plan and requires a minimum of 2 years of MedSurg nursing experience. Candidates must hold appropriate licensure and certifications, be prepared for floating duties, and comply with comprehensive health and background screening requirements.
