Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Neonatal ICU (NICU)

Location: Knoxville, Tennessee
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: Neonatal ICU
  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Patient Ratios: 1:2 to 1:3 depending on acuity
  • Years of Experience Required: 2 years
  • First-timers Accepted: No
  • Weekend Requirement: Yes; prefer 3 out of 4 weekends if needed by unit, minimum 2 weekends per 4-week scheduling period
  • On-call Requirement: No
  • Floating: Only within Women’s Services, very rare
  • Block Schedule: Cannot promise but will try to accommodate requests
  • Locals Accepted: Outside of 30 miles
  • Pending License Accepted: No
  • Return to Office Restrictions: No, but prefer minimum for the 13-week assignment
  • Guaranteed Hours: Scheduled for 36 hours per week; may be called off only within contract parameters
  • Special Requirements: None additional

Certifications Required

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure)

Additional Recommended/As-Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – Required for all ICU units including NICU
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – As required
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) – As required

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Proof of I9 or Attestation
  • Government issued photo ID (must be carried during hours of service)
  • Proof of E-Verify or Attestation
  • Residency Declaration Form (if working on a compact license)
  • Background Check: 7-year criminal check within a year of start, updated annually, including federal and international searches
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and updated for contract renewals
  • Education Verification (highest degree earned)
  • State License Verification (Primary Source Verification)
  • NURSYS Verification (for all RNs)
  • Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam as applicable
  • Competency Exams as applicable to specialty
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement (HIPAA compliance)
  • Photo for badge (recent, plain background, shoulders up, no filters)

Health and Immunization Requirements

  • Physical Exam (within last 12 months)
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (required; declination form if declined)
  • Negative TB test or Chest X-Ray (QGOLD or Tspot within 3 months or 2 PPDs)
  • TB Questionnaire (required for all candidates)
  • Measles (Rubeola): 2 vaccines or positive titer; declination or boosters if negative/equivocal
  • Mumps: 2 vaccines or positive titer; declination or boosters if negative/equivocal
  • Rubella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; declination or boosters if negative/equivocal
  • Hepatitis B: Vaccine series or positive titer required; declinations accepted only under specific circumstances
  • Varicella: 2 vaccines, titer, or history of chickenpox; declination or boosters if negative/equivocal
  • Drug Testing: 9 or 10 panel drug screen within 1 year of start; instant drug screen acceptable
  • Hepatitis A: Required for NICU staff
  • Seasonal Flu Vaccination: Required October 1 - March 31; exemptions require approved documentation and masking if approved

Experience and References

  • Minimum 2 years of specialty experience required
  • Prior travel experience: Not required
  • References: 2 professional references within 2 years required for travel positions
  • Performance and internal evaluations required if previously worked with the facility

Scheduling and Work Environment

  • Weekend work required as noted
  • Floating within Women’s Services only, rarely
  • Block scheduling attempts made but not guaranteed
  • 36 hours guaranteed per week
