Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (MedSurg RN - Renal)

Location: Florence, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (MedSurg RN with Renal focus)
  • Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (Days, 7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
  • Patient Ratios: 1 nurse to 6-7 patients
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend, including holiday rotation
  • On-call: Not required
  • Floating: Required to float within scope to other med/surg units if needed

Experience & Licensing Requirements

  • Years of Experience Required: Minimum 1 year in specialty
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not required; first-time travelers accepted
  • Licensing: South Carolina RN license or Compact license must be in hand prior to start
  • Certifications Required:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC only
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or ARC only (check unit-specific requirements)
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - As required, AHA or ARC only
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - As required, AHA/AAP only
    • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - As required
    • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) - AWHONN or NCC acceptable
    • Other certifications may be required depending on unit

Scheduling & Work Conditions

  • Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
  • Local Candidates: Not accepted (travelers only)
  • Block Scheduling: May be requested but not guaranteed
  • Local Radius: 60 miles
  • Hurricane Season: June through November; travelers may be assigned to emergency response teams during this time

  • Parking: Free parking available
  • Scrub Color: Royal Blue

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Background Checks:
    • Annual background check covering last 7 years of residence/work
    • Includes SSN trace, state and national criminal checks, sex offender registry, FACIS 3, and international searches
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
  • Education Verification: Not required for this facility, but diploma/transcripts preferred as placeholder if needed
  • Licensure Verification: Primary source verification required; SC RN license or compact license mandatory
  • NURSYS Verification: Required for all RNs
  • Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start; no instant tests accepted
  • Physical Exam: Initial and annual physical exam attesting ability to meet job demands
  • Immunizations & Health Requirements:
    • Tdap within 10 years or declination form
    • Negative TB test (2-step PPD or Quantiferon Gold within 90 days) or chest X-ray if positive
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines with boosters if low titer
    • Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination form
    • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines with boosters if low titer
    • Seasonal Flu Vaccine: Required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30); medical/religious exemptions accepted but no declinations
    • COVID-19 Vaccines: Not required but highly preferred; vaccination records must be uploaded or declination form completed
  • Respirator Clearance: Annual medical clearance required for patient-facing roles
  • References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
  • Performance Evaluation: Must be dated within 12 months of start
  • Employment History Verification: Not required for this facility
  • Skills Checklist: Must be updated annually for applicable units

Facility-Specific Orientation & Compliance

  • Completion of orientation modules (approx. 4 hours) prior to start is mandatory
  • Clear, passport-style photo required for badge
  • Signed acknowledgments and agreements required before start, including:
    • Assignment Acknowledgment
    • Code of Conduct
    • Employee Confidentiality Agreement
    • Systems User Agreement
    • HIPAA Confidentiality Agreement
  • Upload COVID and flu vaccination documentation into facility system prior to start
  • Facility-specific COVID exemption form required for religious exemptions

Additional Notes

  • Floating to other med/surg units may be required to meet facility needs
  • Facility may call off shifts but guarantees a minimum number of hours
  • Travelers should be prepared for possible emergency response duties during hurricane season

This position is ideal for Registered Nurses with at least 1 year of MedSurg experience, who hold a valid SC or Compact RN license, and are comfortable working 12-hour day shifts with weekend and holiday rotations in a travel assignment setting.
