Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (MedSurg RN - Renal)
Location: Florence, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (MedSurg RN with Renal focus)
- Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (Nights, 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
- Patient Ratios: 1:6-7
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend, including holiday rotation
- On-call: Not required
- Floating: Required to float within scope to other med/surg units if needed
Experience & Licensure Requirements
- Years of Experience Required: Minimum 1 year in specialty
- Prior Travel Experience: Not required; first-time travelers accepted
- Licensure: South Carolina RN license or Compact license must be active prior to start
- Certifications Required:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA or ARC only
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - AHA or ARC only (facility/unit specific)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) - as required (AHA or ARC only)
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) - as required (AHA/AAP only)
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) - as required
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) - AWHONN or NCC acceptable
- Other certifications may be required depending on unit/job description
Scheduling & Work Conditions
- Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
- Local Candidates: Not accepted
- Block Scheduling: Approval can be requested but not guaranteed
- Local Radius: 60 miles
- Hurricane Season: Travelers may be assigned to emergency response teams during hurricane season (June-November, peak in August-September). New or extended assignments during this time should be considered carefully.
Facility & Documentation Requirements
Background Checks & Verifications
- Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
- Includes SSN trace, state and national criminal checks, sex offender registry, FACIS 3, and international searches
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
- Education verification generally not required for this facility
- NURSYS verification required for licensure
- Work history verification not required for this facility
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Initial physical exam and annual updates attesting ability to meet physical demands
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years or declination form required
- Negative TB test (2-step PPD or Quantiferon Gold within 90 days) or chest X-ray if positive
- Annual TB questionnaire required
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; boosters if low titer
- Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination required
- Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; boosters if low titer
- 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Aug-April)
- COVID-19 vaccines not required but highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
- Respirator medical clearance annually for patient-facing roles
Certifications & Compliance
- All certifications must be current and not expiring within 30 days of assignment start
- Facility-specific orientation modules must be completed prior to start (approx. 4 hours)
- Clear, passport-style photo required for badge
- Signed agreements including assignment acknowledgment, code of conduct, confidentiality, HR policies, and system user agreements required prior to start
Additional Requirements
- Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
- Performance evaluation dated within 12 months of start
- Complete employment application/resume
- Skills checklist updated annually as applicable
- Radiation badge required only for specific departments (OR, Cath Lab, EP Lab, Radiology); not required for this MedSurg role
Summary
This is a 13-week travel contract for a MedSurg RN with a renal focus in Florence, SC. The position requires at least 1 year of RN experience, SC or Compact RN licensure, and current BLS certification. Night shifts with every other weekend and holiday rotation are required. Floating to other med/surg units may be necessary. Prior travel experience is not required, and first-time travelers are welcome. Compliance with extensive background checks, health screenings, immunizations, and facility-specific documentation is mandatory.
Note: Candidates should be aware of potential emergency assignments during hurricane season and ensure all certifications and documentation are up to date before assignment start.
