Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (MedSurg RN - Renal)
Location: Florence, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (MedSurg RN with Renal focus)
- Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (Days, 7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
- Patient Ratios: 1 nurse to 6-7 patients
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend required, including holiday rotation
- On-call: Not required
- Floating: Required to float within scope to other med/surg units if needed
Experience & Licensing Requirements
- Years of Experience Required: Minimum 1 year in specialty
- Prior Travel Experience: Not required (first-time travelers accepted)
- Licensing: South Carolina RN license or Compact license must be in hand prior to start
- Certifications Required:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or ARC only
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) as required
- Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., TNCC, NIH Stroke Certification)
Scheduling & Work Conditions
- Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
- Local Radius: 60 miles (locals not accepted)
- Block Scheduling: Approval can be requested but not guaranteed
- Hurricane Season: Travelers may be assigned to emergency response teams during hurricane season (June - November, peak in August and September)

- Parking: Free parking available
- Uniform Scrub Color: Royal Blue
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Proof of work eligibility (I-9 form)
- Copy of Driver’s License/State ID
- Social Security Card or SSN verification
- Background check including:
- SSN Trace
- County, State, National Criminal checks
- Sex Offender Registry
- FACIS 3
- International searches if applicable
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
- Education verification or diploma/transcripts as placeholder if needed
- State-specific searches (South Carolina Medicaid Excluded Providers)
- Physical exam updated annually, attesting ability to meet physical demands
- Immunizations and titers:
- Tdap within 10 years or declination form
- Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold within 90 days) or chest X-ray if positive
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: positive titer or 2 vaccines with boosters if low titer
- Hepatitis B: titer, vaccine series, or declination
- Varicella: positive titer or 2 vaccines with boosters if low titer
- Drug screening: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
- Flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30)
- COVID vaccination highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
- Respirator medical clearance annually for patient-facing roles
- Clinical references (2) and performance evaluation within 12 months of start
- Work history verification for last 3 clinical employers (not required for this facility)
Orientation & Facility Specifics
- Completion of First Day Instructions (FDI) and OurDay modules prior to start (approx. 4 hours)
- Upload COVID and flu vaccine documentation into OurDay platform
- Passport-style photo required for badge
- Signed agreements and acknowledgments including:
- Assignment Acknowledgment
- Code of Conduct
- Employee Confidentiality Agreement
- HR Policy Manual
- Systems User Agreement
- User Access Request
- HIPAA Confidentiality Agreement
- Review and complete MINI orientation and acknowledgement
Additional Notes
- Floating to other med/surg units may be required to meet facility needs
- Facility may call off shifts but guarantees a minimum number of hours
- Candidates must have all certifications valid beyond 30 days from start date
- Radiation badge required only for specific departments (not applicable for MedSurg RN)
This position is ideal for Registered Nurses with at least 1 year of MedSurg experience, who are flexible with floating and weekend shifts, and hold or can obtain a South Carolina or Compact RN license. Prior travel experience is not required.
