Job Opportunity: Critical Care Float - Registered Nurse
Location: Madison, Wisconsin

Job Description
- Work evening/night shifts (8 or 12 hours), scheduled 1900-07:30, every other weekend, with holiday rotation.
- Position at a Magnet® certified hospital and Level 1 Trauma Center.
- Opportunity to work in an academic learning environment.
- Flexibility to float across multiple critical care units including Trauma Life Center, Burn ICU, Neuro ICU, and Cardiac ICU.
- Participate in Shared Governance initiatives.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of acute care experience within the last 3 years.
- Experience in multiple ICU units (Neuro ICU, Cardiothoracic, Burn ICU, Trauma Surgery, etc.).
- ICU experience with adult populations required.
- Willingness to work with IMC/Progressive/General care populations as needed.
- Experience in an academic Level 1 Trauma Center required.
- Successful completion of at least one prior travel assignment (minimum 13 weeks).
- Epic electronic health record experience required, preferably within the last 12 months.
Prior travel experience required: Yes (must have completed at least one prior travel contract).
Licensure & Certifications
- Must hold a Wisconsin nursing license or a compact license from permanent address state.
- BLS and ACLS certifications required, must be American Heart Association (AHA) issued.
- Basic Arrhythmia experience required; must pass Telemetry test prior to start.
Floating & Location Details
- Floating is required; travelers may be assigned to multiple units or locations based on staffing needs.
- Traveler’s permanent address must be within 50 miles of the primary work site.
Required Testing & Compliance
- Telemetry testing (Adult and Pediatric as applicable) with strict passing criteria and remediation process.
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exams as applicable.
- Background checks including caregiver screening, education verification, and state-specific requirements.
- Drug screening required per agency standards.
- Various health document requirements including:
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray with TB questionnaire.
- Immunizations or exemptions for MMR, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Flu, Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap, Meningococcal vaccines.
- Facility-specific forms such as communicable disease form, flu exemption forms, and photo for badge.

- Parking permit required if parking onsite; alternative transportation options available.
- Facility is ranked as Wisconsin’s #1 hospital and is a leading teaching and referral center.
- Orientation includes safety manual acknowledgment and pass/fail testing for telemetry and medication exams.
This position is ideal for experienced critical care RNs who have prior travel experience and are comfortable working in a fast-paced, academic Level 1 Trauma Center environment with floating responsibilities across multiple ICU units.
