Job Opportunity: Critical Care Float - Registered Nurse
Location: Madison, Wisconsin
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work evening/night shifts (8 or 12 hours), scheduled 1900-07:30, including every other weekend and holiday rotation.
- Must float between multiple ICU units including Neuro ICU, Cardiothoracic, Burn ICU, Trauma Surgery, and others as needed.
- ICU experience with adult populations is required.
- Willingness to work with IMC/Progressive/General care populations as needed.
- Experience in an Academic Level 1 Trauma Center is required.
- Must have completed at least one prior travel assignment of 13 weeks.
- Two years of acute care experience within the last 3 years is required.
- Epic electronic health record experience required, preferably within the last 12 months.
- Basic Arrhythmia experience required; must pass a Telemetry test prior to start.
Required Licensure and Certifications
- Wisconsin nursing license or compact license from permanent address state.
- BLS and ACLS certifications through the American Heart Association only.
Experience Requirements
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (Critical Care)
- Years of Experience: Minimum 2 years acute care experience within last 3 years (higher requirement overrides any lesser stated).
- Prior Travel Experience: Must have successfully completed at least one prior travel contract (13 weeks).
Facility and Work Environment
- Magnet®-designated hospital and Level 1 Trauma Center.
- Academic learning environment with opportunities to work in various critical care settings.
- Supports Shared Governance participation.
- Floating is expected; shifts may be assigned across multiple units or locations depending on staffing needs.
- Candidate’s permanent address must be within 50 miles of the primary work site.
Testing and Competency Requirements
- Must pass Telemetry test (Adult or Pediatric depending on assignment) prior to start and annually thereafter.
- Pass/Fail testing includes EKG and medication competency exams.
- Remediation and retesting policies apply for failed attempts on required exams.
Health and Compliance Requirements
- Background checks including SSN trace, nationwide, sex offender, and caregiver screening per Wisconsin state mandate.
- Drug screening required for clinical candidates.
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- TB test or chest X-ray (with specific timing and documentation requirements)
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or titers, with medical/religious exemptions accepted.
- Varicella vaccination or titer, with exemptions accepted.
- Hepatitis B vaccination series or declination form.
- Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption annually.
- Other vaccines or declinations as applicable (e.g., Tdap, Meningococcal for certain departments).
- Physical exam documentation required to meet agency standards.
Additional Notes
- Parking permit required if parking onsite; alternative transportation options available.
- Photo for badge must meet specific requirements (passport-style, no selfies, solid background).
- Various facility-specific forms and acknowledgments required prior to start.
This position is ideal for experienced critical care RNs who have prior travel experience and are comfortable working in a fast-paced, academic Level 1 Trauma Center environment with multiple ICU specialties.
